🚨 A New Look for Abbeville County 911! 🚨
After a whole lot of hard work, long hours, sore backs, a little frustration, and plenty of teamwork, our 911 center has officially gotten a much-needed makeover! 💛🖤
Our telecommunicators spend countless hours sitting behind these consoles, answering the calls that come on someone’s worst day and making sure our law enforcement officers, firefighters, and EMS crews get where they need to go safely. We wanted to give them a workspace that was not only more modern and functional, but also more comfortable and inviting for the people who call this room home 12 hours at a time.
And getting there was definitely a team effort!
Before the new consoles could ever be installed, the old center had to be completely torn down and prepared. Our Public Safety leadership team rolled up our sleeves and tackled much of that work ourselves — disconnecting and removing the old consoles, pulling up some VERY stubborn old carpet, moving equipment, painting, preparing the room for new flooring, and then carefully putting all of the technology and equipment back together again.
All while 911 remained operational 24/7. 📞🚓🚑🚒
During the renovation, our telecommunicators temporarily relocated to consoles in the EOC and continued answering calls and dispatching responders without interruption. There is no “closed for remodeling” sign in 911!
The end result is a cleaner, brighter, more comfortable and up-to-date communications center that we hope will serve our dispatchers — and Abbeville County — well for many years to come.
We are incredibly thankful for everyone who gave their time, muscle, patience, problem-solving skills, and probably a little bit of their sanity to make this project happen. 😂
