🎓🇹🇼 What can students learn from one day in Miaoli? Quite a lot, when the destination becomes the classroom.
For this Taiwan student trip, we planned a day that moved naturally from culture to local life, hands-on learning and finally the natural environment.
The students began by learning about Hakka culture, then explored the old railway atmosphere around Shengxing Station.
In the afternoon came one of the most hands-on parts of the day: indigo dyeing. 💙
Instead of simply hearing about a traditional craft, students created something themselves. They designed the pattern, worked with the fabric and dye, waited for the process to do its work, and finally opened their pieces to discover that no two looked exactly the same.
The day then finished at Houlong Cape of Good Hope, where the coastline and wind turbines offered another opportunity to think about the relationship between nature, energy and local communities.
A school trip doesn’t need to be packed with attractions to be meaningful.
Sometimes four well-chosen experiences are enough:

🎓🇹🇼 一天的苗栗校外教學，可以學到多少東西？如果把整個地方變成教室，其實比想像中更多。
這次學生團，我們沒有把行程塞滿，而是安排四個很不一樣的體驗，讓學生用不同方式認識苗栗。
上午先從 客家文化開始，接著走進 勝興車站，看看舊鐵道旁的街區、地方小吃與山城生活。
下午則是學生參與感最高的一站—— 藍染 DIY。💙
不是站在旁邊看老師示範，而是自己設計、自己綁、自己染，最後再親手拆開作品。
最有趣的是，同樣的材料、同樣的染液，每個人最後做出來的花紋卻都不一樣。
對學生來說，這時候「傳統工藝」就不再只是課本裡的一個詞，而是一件自己真的做過、也能帶回家的作品。
最後來到 後龍好望角，看看海岸、風與風力發電機，讓一天從人文重新回到自然。
我們覺得好的校外教學，不一定要去很多地方。
更重要的是：

🚂 有地方可以探索
💙 有事情可以親手完成
🌊 也有空間可以觀察與思考
