In 1845 the Fatel Razak departed Kolkata  India, carrying the first set of indentured labourers that were destined for Trinidad. The arrival of the labourers had been greatly anticipated by the colonists who believed that the labourers would have saved the island for depression and ruin. It took approximately 96 days for the labourers to arrive on the then British colony of Trinidad, bringing along with them their culture and way of life.
