🕊️ Desperadoes Steel Orchestra Mourns the Passing of Robert Greenidge 🕊️
It is with profound sadness that the Executive, Management, Board of Directors, Players, Alumni and Members of the Desperadoes Steel Orchestra mourn the passing of Robert Greenidge.
Robert was more than a world-renowned pannist—he was a true Desperado whose musical brilliance helped shape the identity and legacy of our band. His genius as a composer and arranger produced unforgettable works including Musical Volcano, Fire Coming Down and Africa, compositions that showcased his creativity and his unwavering love for the steelband movement.
His contributions brought Desperadoes to Panorama glory, sharing in the band’s 1985 National Panorama Championship with Pan Night and Day, before returning to lead the orchestra to championship victories with his own compositions Musical Volcano in 1991 and Fire Coming Down in 1994. These masterpieces remain treasured chapters in the history of Desperadoes.
Beyond his accomplishments as a musician and arranger, Robert also served on the Board of Directors of Desperadoes Steel Orchestra, continuing his commitment to the growth and development of the organization he loved. Whether through his leadership, his compositions, or his performances, his dedication to Desperadoes was always evident.
Though his talent carried him to the world’s greatest stages, he never ceased to be a Desperado. He proudly represented Laventille, Trinidad and Tobago, and the steelpan fraternity, inspiring generations with his artistry, humility, and excellence.
Today, we honour not only a musical genius but a loyal son of Desperadoes whose legacy will forever resonate through our panyard and in every note we play.
