I haven't written a post in a while. I've been busy, or distracted, or both. That happens and sometimes you sit down to write and nothing comes. Just a big black whole. Tonight I thought about apples, or the irrational apple situation in Thailand. I could have been thinking about the incident that happened in Bangkok a few days ago, and I did for a bit, or why the stock market dropped 500 points in one day, which I also did, at great length this morning when I checked the Internet. I'm so good at this recipe I can make it with my eyes closed. Not really, impossible, but close. I can do it while little Alice is crying in the next room. She's crying because I'm banging around in the kitchen, trying to find things. A Thai kitchen is no place for cooking, or at least no place for baking. [ 377 more words. ]

Fantan bread is a pretty ridiculous concept. Make some bread dough (a sweet egg type), cut it into strips and then squares and make a 'fan' shape out of it and bake it in a muffin tray... I can't believe I'm even writing this--it sounds pretty stupid, fan bread, so named because you make it into a fan before you bake it. [ 314 more words. ]

I made these quick. The biscuit, who doesn't love it. Scone or biscuit, I think this is a true biscuit, no messing about with this one. We're in the middle of a crisis, the baby just keeps on crying... I told my wife I want to take her to the mountains, leave her with the Monks. She'll like the mountains. I know I do, and I often wish that someone would deliver me to the mountains where I can live out the rest of my life growing corn, or trying my hands at coffee farming... [ 299 more words. ]

We got Durian in the house again today. My request, because my wife claims it makes our new baby cry at night. Maybe it's just the night and she gets lonely. Maybe it's the smell, though I don't think it's as bad as most people think (or claim) it is... Maybe it's the heat, feeling like a 105 in the house, and making the Durian a wee bit more pungent. A couple of things, one, sometimes I get tired of Thai food, my wife does as well, two, other foods, to buy or make, can get expensive here. Japanese, outrageously overpriced, American food, the same, Mexican, wow, a few beans, some meat, a couple of taco shells, forget it! Taco Bell, we don't have it, McDonald's, KFC, we do, but it's considered expensive, the kind of meal you maybe buy once a month, not like home where it is considered cheap. [ 402 more words. ]

Cheap and good is the way to go for us these days. You might want to add fast to the list, because as the parents of a newborn we don't get a lot of time for a night out.
