Tan Tiek Chow (aka Ah Chow), our founder has started his bakery career as early as the age of 16 years old. Travelling alone from Malaysia to Singapore, He started learning his skills from different shi-fus. Over the years, his baking skill has started to get recognition from customers praises. In 1988, together with Mr. Leow and a group of supportive relatives, he started our first flagship store
at 157 Ang Mo Kio Ave 4. Since then, Thiam Yian Confectionery has started to serve its authentic and traditional baked goods to many of his loyal customers not only to the Ang Mo Kio community but also to the rest of the community in this little small dot.
30 years at Ang Mo Kio was a remarkable journey for us and in 2018, due to some reason, we have no choice but forced to close our store at Ang Mo Kio which at that point of time could be the end of Thiam Yian Confectionery. But luckily, the 2nd generation, Mr. Kae Tan do not want this traditional skills to ended just like that and decided to take over to preserve this tradition to pass on to future generations. Today, Thiam Yian Confectionery reopen its store at 1004 Upper Serangoon Road selling range of handmade traditional breads, cake & pastries which are hardly found in Singapore anymore. This traditional cake & pastries are used of traditional events especially Chinese Wedding Betrothal (Guo Da Li).
