It's a very different Christmas this year for me.

In a whole different setting; with different people; an uncomfortable different environment; a different morning and night.

Of course, not to mention, no bakes this year.

That said, I am reminded of what Christmas truly means; the true hope, joy, love and peace that comes with it and the true eternal source of all, Jesus.

'How are you?'

A common question, a simple one. Yet, also one of the toughest to answer truthfully.

As with many others, I often mask it with a 'I'm alright thank you', or ' I've been busy but still coping thank you'. These are just some common responses for me, and perhaps you might have heard it many time from others as well.

My heart has been rather heavy lately and I felt like taking some time to write and share might be a little cathartic.

Recently, I took some time to just reflect and ponder a little deeper into my anxiety thought patterns, and thought it would also be a little helpful for myself to just jot some of these down.

I'm only human, and I have many shortcomings. They often cause me to fall and falter in ways I do not anticipate nor intend too. Very often, I unconsciously lapse into actions which may cause hurt, annoyance, irritation to others, all in a mere attempt to try and reach out, be conscientious or simply seek feedback.

I understand I cannot control what others think and feel about my actions, and oftentimes, self-blame is not the solution. That said, I do recognise my inadequacies and as I continue to work on them in my daily life, I'd be grateful for your patience and support with me.

Not gonna share too much here, as I don’t wish to flood this space unnecessarily with such heavy personal content too. More shared on my blog! If you enjoy reading, do pop by and show some love. Say a hello if you wish too🫢🏻

Sweet potato nutty loaded crumble cake!

This was a cake spun out of my sugar-free banana loaves, as I used predominantly sweet potatoes as a sweetener, with a mix of plant-based sweeteners from and 🍠

Overall, I'd say this resembles a cross between a pound cake (without the heaviness), a terrine cake (without the chocolate), with a slight chew akin to our local kueh-kuehs, all packed in a warm-spiced cake and topped with chonky nuts for the crunch!
(perhaps a chewy-poudge kek?🀭)

I understand such textures might not be everyone's cuppa tea (cake), and for this, I'd presume it's a rather acquired texture.

However, one thing I'm sure is that it has a warm nice spice to it that you'll not taste sweet potatoes in them (esp for those who aren't a fan)! In fact, it reminds me alot of a carrot cake! Also, I especially enjoy the brown crusts, which is why I delved into a deeper analysis of this cake.

I think some tweaks to the recipes and process of baking it (including bake timings etc) would potentially render this with a greater 'cake profile'. The moist kinda cakes, yet soft with a nice cake crumb!

And so I'll be exploring more for sure!πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ³

I wouldn't call it 'troubleshooting' (as there isn't much of a trouble here p***e), but the science and art of baking involves a ton of experimentations, leading to endless variations we can never dream of. Above all, it's exploring the world of vegan baking which is why it's fascinating, to me.🫧

The loaf that pretty much screams LOCAL!

Throwback to my Gula Melaka Banana Loaf - an incredibly fragrant moist loaf that is packed with your local favs.

I've been digging through my albums and plethora of pics that I never quite got to share; and so from time to time when I get the inspiration to write about a topic or just some random thoughts and reflections, I will select some to share with you.

Today is just a rather restful day and I see my feed filled with valentines bakes. Time flies and Valentines is upcoming even when the CNY celebrations had yet to end for many (myself included). And being a year older has not yet quite sunk into me yet.🫣

So, rather than bombarding you with more Valentines bakes, inspirations and ideas I may have- I thought I would just share some snippets of what I love doing. And that's bringing the 'local' into your classics, creating my own rendition of bakes and creations that combine various elements and flavours for you. πŸ¦„

Sharing more past snaps that stayed in my photo albums. I realised that I've way too many snaps of my bakes and creations and just haven't quite found the 'right occasion' to post them. Will gradually take time to share them more intentionally with you 🫢🏻

On a side note, after my previous post, it was as tho the devil read it and was coming against me at once.

Barley into 2025 and I already landed myself in not so pleasant situations 🫠 oh wells. I could get upset, frustrated and pi**ed for a ton of reasons. I could invest time and effort into trying to rectify matters and perhaps clear misunderstandings but then i recalled what I had reflected upon.

I wanna spend more time focusing on the people who truly care for me and for the growth of this space; on the things that matter more and contribute to my purpose; on my intentions and not the outcomes. If I come with a well-meaning heart, it doesn't and shouldn't matter if it's taken wrongly (it hurts, not gonna lie, but this is life). I'm still learning and it's gonna take time, it's gonna take effort, but this is a journey 🐾

I'm also reminded of a verse,
"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?" Mark 8:36 (NKJV)

In the same light, what will I benefit if I gain everyone's likes but lose my sense of direction, purpose, identity and authenticity?

I hope that as I continue navigating my way in this large large world amongst people from all walks of life, I'll continue to remember my life's compass and what keeps me rooted, and to be authentically me.

Sharing some wise words from a friend over a recent conversation over coffee. It's always refreshing to here such timely reminders, especially so in downtimes when I'm feeling a little disheartened and disappointed.

So true, yet a whole lot of tough emotions to digest and history to put behind me.

Nevertheless, as I navigate around being a better version of myself each time, I'm reminded that if I'm put to a task, there will be more than sufficient grace for it.

Do what you're called to, with a heart of grace and gratitude, and you'll find joy in what you do. ✨

Hello to you and the new peeps here~ If you're new to this space, I'd love to welcome you and take this opportunity at the start of a new year to share a little more about who we are and our purpose here.

I hope to be short and sweet with this, so read on for more!

1. I started this space many years back (9 years and counting), as a way to challenge myself in the arena of vegan baking. Back then, vegan options were scarce and I thought, why not try challenging myself to something that many felt were not achievable? At the same time, I wanted to debunk the myths that vegan bakes were yucky and horrible, and I wanted my bakes to change mindsets and perspectives of others with simple, classic, yet timeless treats.

I then named us 'teeny weeny treats' initially, as I wanted to serve bite-sized treats where you could nom on easily anytime of the day!

2. As vegan options were scarce back then, our bakes gained the attention of many in the vegan community. Gradually, as more grew interested in our bakes and requested for other treats, the menu range naturally expanded. I then started exploring many more variations, with the intention of sharing homely, unsophisticated treats that bring you nostalgia.

3. Fast forward many years and through ups and downs, I've since renamed us to 'TWT plantedbyhei' which means 'Teeny Weeny Treats, planted by grace' as a reminder to myself that by grace, this space was planted and will continue to stand strong to serve plant-based treats. Today, I've explored a ton more from where we'd started. Be it cakes and muffins, cookies and brownies, mochi, tarts and cheezecakes, the list goes on. I'm still on this journey of exploring, creating and sharing bakes from my humble abode and tiny hands, and I thank you for joining me on this journey.
