We thought long and hard, tried and failed, and tried again for many hours in the kitchen every single component that goes into our cakes, before we serve up our food that you are about to enjoy. We prepare each cake with a lot of care to ensure the quality that you are promised. If we do not feel that it is good enough, if we do not enjoy it, we will not have it on the menu. So we hope you would

What we wanted was for the cake to feel the way pulut hitam actually feels when you eat it, so now there is a thick pulut hitam sauce spooned over the top, and around the rim we finish it with roasted desiccated coconut that toasts up nutty and carries the whole thing 🥥

It is familiar and comforting and a little old fashioned, which feels like the point with the rest of the country is out celebrating this coming National Day. 🇸🇬

Some mornings start the same way for us, kopi on the table and kaya toast still warm from the toaster, and one day Darren wondered what would happen if we put that whole breakfast into a cake. So we did. Coffee sponge, kaya, peanut butter, and a rim of crushed peanuts for that bit of crunch you get from the crust of the bread ☕

It tastes like the coffee shop mornings we grew up with, only softer, and it feels like the right thing to have on the table this National Day 🇸🇬

🇸🇬These cakes have been with us for a while now, and this National Day we decided to give it a fresh look, and they now come in three layers!

𝗞𝗼𝗽𝗶 𝗞𝗮𝘆𝗮 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘂𝘁 𝗕𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 with coffee chiffon, pandan kaya and our homemade peanut butter ☕
𝗢𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗵 𝗢𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗵 with pandan chiffon and full-bodied gula melaka 🥥
𝗢𝗿𝗵 𝗡𝗲𝗲 layered between pandan chiffon, wrapped in coconut buttercream and finished with rose petals 💜
𝗣𝘂𝗹𝘂𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗺 simmered slow and long until it turns velvety, the way it should be 🖤
The pandan is always fresh leaves and nothing else, no colouring, no flavouring, nothing hidden. Slices are available at our Joo Chiat shop, and whole cakes are open for preorder online.

It has been a while since we last sat down and spoke openly about the things we do here and the reasons behind them, so this documentary felt like a really special moment to revisit all of that. We talked about 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 and why we believed so strongly that pandan and gula melaka deserved a place on the birthday table, about the 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝗻 and the slow mornings that inspired it, and about what it means to 𝗯𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁.
What stayed with us after filming was just how much warmth and trust you have given us over the years. Parents who came back to tell us their children now 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀. Neighbours who make us their 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁. The regulars who bulk order the shio pan as though it were groceries. 🧡 We bake because of you, and we hope this film lets you see a little more of the 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 on that shelf.

Kaya toast is one of those things almost every Singaporean grows up with. Charcoal bread, a thick smear of kaya, cold butter melting into it, and a soft boiled egg on the side. It is breakfast, it is comfort, it is a memory you do not really think about until someone takes it away from you.

That is exactly why we wanted to make a vegan one, so that nobody has to sit out of something so ordinary and so loved. Same table, same toast, everyone included. From our family to yours.

This year, we've been dreaming up something truly special for National Day, and it finally arrives as our signature house-made vegan kaya, carefully piped into a cloud of fluffy shiopan, layered with a generous thick slice of creamy butter that simply melts in your mouth. The aroma is incredible! 👀

We take the time to toast the coconut flakes to perfection and scatter them across the top, giving the pastry a delightful crunch before it goes into the oven, which yields that gorgeous golden-brown crust you see here, and when you take a bite, you'll discover the soft, fluffy crumb underneath. It's a match made in heaven! 😍

A celebration of flavour that feels both familiar, like a warm hug from an old friend, and entirely new, like a thrilling adventure, all at once.

There’s a funny lump in your throat when you say goodbye to something that has been with you through every early morning and every last order of the day. It helps with our super early morning shifts. This old coffee machine saw us through years of shots, spills and the quiet hum of the bakery before opening, and letting it go felt a little like waving off an old friend.

But oh, we cannot stay sad for long, because look what has arrived. With a new supplier comes a beautiful new machine, all gleaming and ready, and honestly it feels a bit like driving home a brand new car. We are beyond excited to pull your next cup on it, so do come by and taste the difference for yourself 💛

*PHOTO SPAM POST ALERT* Yesterday was World Chocolate Day and we thought the best way to celebrate was to simply show you everything we have that is rich, dark and utterly unnecessary to resist 🍫

From the Chocolate Fudge cake to the Chocolate Banana, the Chocolate Mochi Bun to a properly cold cup of Cold Chocolate, we basically built an entire carousel just to make you scroll and crave.

Consider this our love letter to cocoa. No occasion needed beyond the calendar telling us it is finally allowed 😊 Tag the friend who needs this more than you do.

It's International Chocolate Day and if you know us, you know we loveeee chocolate too!🍫

We've been making the Sweet Potato Fudge Brownie for a while now, and today felt like the perfect excuse to give it the spotlight it deserves. We wanted something that felt indulgent but also a little kinder to us, so we use sweet potatoes and dates for their natural sweetness and fudge like qualities, then bring in dark chocolate, cocoa powder, coconut oil and tapioca to build that proper brownie texture 😊 There's just a touch of brown sugar in there too, less than 5% of the batter, enough to bring out the flavour without tipping it into overly sweet territory.

Covered in a luscious chocolate ganache and finished with a sprinkling of cocoa powder, this one has always been a treat through and through. It's not the sickly sweet kind of brownie you might be used to, just dense, rich and properly chocolatey, without much guilt attached
