Thankful in the little things that make everyday great.

The past week, I was battling a fierce virus.
40°C fevers.
That could easily have become the highlight of my week.
The easy thing would’ve been to dwell in the moan-and-groan of it all.

And in that same week…

A gift from Penang.
Snacks from Korea.
Something thoughtful from Melaka and Vietnam.
Little surprises and sweet thoughts from neighbours and friends.

They hadnt bought them because they knew i was unwell.

And somehow, it’s never really about the gifts.

It’s knowing someone saw something and thought of you.
The feeling of being remembered.
Cared for. Connected to.
Tiny reminders that you are valued and loved.

Maybe the big things in life are among the little things after all.

What are the gems in your everyday lately? ✨

This whole week, I’ve been working with a designer on an upcoming launch.

I was truly impressed by her service so after everything was finalised, I complimented her for her patience and professionalism throughout the process. There was a pause before she replied.

She shared that it was the first time a customer had called her by name and praised her personally. She said she felt moved and deeply touched.

That reply tugged at my heart.

Maybe she’s used to being referred to by an employee ID.
Maybe she’s more familiar with complaints than appreciation because work can get frustrating sometimes.

And it made me wonder… how starved some people are for a kind word;
And what sincere appreciation and affirmation can do.

This upcoming launch is centred around affirmation. I truly believe people need to be reminded of who they are — their real, capable and valuable identity.

I’m excited because even at this preparation stage, impact is already being made.

I’m not offering just bakes,
These are action bakes — bakes that appreciate, affirm and connect hearts. ✨

Stay tuned….

A 35-cup bouquet for a 16th birthday celebration. It is my first time making a cupcake bouquet this size. This has unlocked another level of learning and experience for me and it is so refreshing! 🌊

One of the requests is to keep the cake simple. Being simple doesn’t mean flat, unexciting or in the background. Simplicity is luxe. Simplicity is elegant. To me, being simple means unpretentious, being authentic and real…these which are premium ingredients to baking trust and making meaningful and strong connections in relationships.

What does being simple mean to you?

This is Part I of reel for a 35-cup bouquet.

I am thankful for an opportunity to create a 35-cup bouquet for a 16th birthday celebration for the sweetest girl on earth. I’ve had many firsts in this project and a lot of fun and I want to share the entire process with you - from the design concept to the assembling and finally, the end product. Because you guys are so dear to me in my baking journey 💕

I am taking some time to edit the reels and I ask for your patience and stay thru with me as I dish them out in parts 😁

I knew about Prune Butter Cake for years before I ever baked it.

I loved the idea of those prune slices tucked between soft cake layers, adding texture, depth and that rich, mellow sweetness. I wanted to bake it… just not enough to start.

In my head, there were too many hurdles.
Finding new ingredients….. Researching recipes….. Deciding how to cut and layer the prunes…..Testing how much prune is enough (because I refuse stingy prune portions) without breaking the cake’s balance.

All that thinking turned into obstacles.
And the cake stayed an idea. For YEARS.

Then I reminded myself, nothing changes if nothing changes. Goals feel heavy from the starting point. They drain energy before we even begin.

So I stopped thinking about the whole cake.

Baby step 1: I bought prunes.
Pause.
Baby step 2: I cut them into smaller pieces.
Oh - this feels doable.
And step by step… the Butter Prune Cake happened!

Some steps are tiny. Some are bigger.
We have more energy to try on some days, while there are days we just want to chill out and restore.
All of it counts.

As long as you’ve moved, you’re closer than before.

✨ What’s one small step you can take today to move closer to what you want?

🍪 Do bakers eat bakes from others’ oven? OF COURSE!!

A friend made these Miso Chocolate Chip soft cookies for me. Yes MISO! They are sooooo gooood!

✅ Softness perfect 💯
✅ Sweet and savoury balance perfect 💯
✅ Fragrance perfect 💯

Simply delicious!

I used to think that as a baker, I must be super with all bakes. I think that only so will it make me feel like a credible baker 👩‍🍳 I get frustrated and upset with myself when some bakes did not meet MY expectations during the test phase, hence, those never got presented on the menu. Over time, I learnt this doesn’t have to be. My talents are for some, just as I don’t need to be a superhero in all areas of life. How exhausting that would be!

I am as blessed being the baker who share my yummy bakes as being a recipient of others’ talents. A star shines its brightest when its fuel is most energised and stops shining when its fuel is exhausted.

How is being a superhero for all things important to you?
What are areas you can take a back seat in?

🍃 Chiffon cakes need to be cooled upside down to prevent collapsing. The cake will be dense and visually not as appealing if it collapses. I’ve not heard of anyone who enjoys pandan chiffon cake in a SHEET. The overturning is necessary to maintain its form.

Whenever you feel things around you are topsy turvy, know this is temporary. This uncomfortable phase WILL pass and next comes beautiful. 🌈

[Wondering] How did the chiffon cake journey through the overturned phase? 🙂
