It feels good to be back here❤️

Simple Indulgence Patisserie began with Mid-Autumn Festival — and our Japanese Yuzu White Chocolate mooncake has remained a favourite all these years.

Looking back, yuzu was quietly part of our story from the very beginning. The yuzu we used came from Kitagawa Village, long before I had ever set foot there myself.

Today, although the shop is no longer open, my journey with yuzu continues in a very different way.

I have finally come to Kitagawa Village — to see the orchards, experience the seasons, and meet the growers behind the yuzu that has been part of our story for so many years.

Without the growers, there would be no yuzu for us to create with.

And without all of you who came back for that familiar yuzu flavour year after year, there would be no story to look back on with such gratitude. 🍋

To our yuzu fans, thank you for loving it as much as we did.

Standing among the mountains, I found myself reflecting on the history held within this landscape — generations of hard work, care, and connection to the land.

The roots here run deeper than the trees themselves.

For years, I have worked with Kitagawa Village yuzu.

I have zested it, juiced it, candied it and baked with it. Yet until this spring, I had never seen a yuzu flower, let alone touched, smelled or tasted one.

On a recent visit to the farm, I was handed a freshly picked yuzu flower and encouraged to taste it.

To my surprise, it carried the unmistakable flavour and aroma of the fruit I already knew so well.

What stayed with me most, however, was its quiet elegance.

Not showy or extravagant.

Just understated and unforgettable.

In that moment, the connection between blossom and fruit became real.

Standing among the trees, breathing in their fragrance and seeing thousands of flowers scattered across the orchards, I realised there was still so much to learn about an ingredient I thought I knew well.

Every fruit begins here.

As a brief and beautiful flower.

For the first time, I was able to experience that beginning for myself — not in the kitchen, but in the orchard.

Back in Kitagawa Village recently, and slowly settling into the rhythm of the mountains, fields, flowers, and everyday kindness.

This season begins with yuzu flowers — seeing them, touching them, smelling them, and tasting them for the first time. A small flower, but such a beautiful reminder that flavour begins long before the kitchen.

A new Kitagawa chapter begins, quietly.

“I didn’t skate for the gold medal. I skated with joy.”

When I heard Alysa Liu say this in an interview, it stayed with me.

Watching her glide so gracefully and elegantly across the ice, you can feel that freedom.

In competitions — and in life — we often focus so much on the outcome. But sometimes the most powerful moments happen when we simply allow ourselves to be present and do what we genuinely love.

When something is created from pressure, it feels tight. When it comes from joy, it expands.

A reminder this International Women’s Day that strength can be expressed not only through power, but also through grace, authenticity, and quiet confidence.

喜びから生まれるものは、美しく広がっていく。

Earlier this winter, in Kitagawa Village, an open and village-led yuzu competition invited ideas that could meaningfully support the village and its future.

Our three-flavour yuzu ice pops were awarded Grand Prix, selected unanimously by the judging panel led by Kihachi Kumagai.

We receive this recognition with gratitude, and a sense of responsibility to the place that inspired it.

The three colours reflect the life of yuzu — from green, to yellow, to orange at full ripeness. Different moments in time, each with its own character and flavour.

This project took shape through collaboration and the generosity of local farmers, who allowed us to experience yuzu across seasons. It belongs as much to the village as it does to us.
