🎥☀️ Recently, Telemundo Puerto Rico visited our workshop to interview the team and experience firsthand the work behind our solar car project. During their visit, they had the opportunity to see how students from multiple engineering disciplines collaborate to design, build, and improve a solar-powered vehicle that will represent Puerto Rico in international competitions.

From hands-on manufacturing and testing to teamwork and innovation, the interview highlighted the dedication and long hours our members invest every week to continue pushing the project forward.

We are incredibly grateful to for taking the time to showcase our mission, our team, and the future of sustainable engineering in Puerto Rico. ☀️🏎️

We had the incredible opportunity to visit and meet with the team at AES Puerto Rico in Salinas to learn more about the future of renewable energy and large scale energy storage systems in Puerto Rico.

During the visit, we explored the development of the Marahú Solar + Storage Project, a utility-scale renewable energy initiative designed to strengthen the island’s electrical grid through solar generation, battery storage, and advanced interconnection systems. The project includes hundreds of megawatts of solar energy generation and battery storage capacity that will help stabilize energy distribution across Puerto Rico.

One of the most impactful parts of the experience was learning how AES integrates innovative technologies such as Fluence battery systems — developed through the collaboration between AES and Siemens — to support grid reliability and renewable energy integration.

We also learned about:
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) used to stabilize solar generation
Inverters and transformation centers that support interconnection to the grid
Solar panel orientation strategies, including south-facing configurations for optimized energy capture
Land restoration and preparation efforts tied to the Marahú Project
The scale and infrastructure required to support Puerto Rico’s clean energy transition
Seeing firsthand how engineering, sustainability, and innovation come together in projects of this magnitude was an inspiring experience for our team. Opportunities like these allow us to better understand the real-world impact of renewable energy systems and the future of energy infrastructure in Puerto Rico.
