Posted β’ Since, I am just getting back on my coffee routine, I picked my favorite vintage french press today to brew some effortless coffee but I ended up experimenting today rather than taking it easy. π
I wanted to try the ground coffee that .goodbatch sent over, now I know packed coffee grounds is quite challenging to brew (at least for me). Since these are in fine ground form I either just brew it like an instant coffee powder (the βjust add hot waterβ method) knowing and accepting whole heartedly that I will be drinking some grounds or my recently fave method, the French Press.
Friends, do not be fooled by FP, I realized that this brewer is actually one of the most flexible brewer around. You just have to look at its potential (immersion brewing).
Anyway, back to the brew, ground coffee in fine form tend to be in the dark roast side, this happens when you buy online so itβs really harder to control the acidity and bitterness.
That was my issue today! I needed my brew to be comfy but lighter so hereβs what I did.
Quick Rundown:
- Used FP method.
- 12 grams / 180 grams water (I needed more water to control the brew).
- Initial immersion time, I followed the 4 minutes rule and removed the grounds as instructed.
- However, I knew this coffee ground wonβt need a longer immersion time as you can see how dark it is so I reduced the 5 minutes rule for the second immersion to 3 minutes.
- To get a clean brew (reduced grounds), poured it to my cup w/ a dripper above it.
- It was still strong so, I added 10 grams of hot water directly to the cup (also referred as bypass method, yeah the other bypass).
Results:
- Clean, balanced, comfy and I have to say an OG brew that I think my in-laws would appreciate.π₯°β€οΈ
