Cake Picnic De Tarlac was the 1st in the Province of Tarlac. It is a cake-lebration of bakers/cake artists community. A still marginalized sector of society. Often snubbed and binabarat. But growing in a multitude.
We started without an established group and knew only few of existing homebakers. But the question was raised. What if we bring Cake Picnic to Tarlac which by the way originated in San Francisco, U.S.A . Then inquiries came. Lotsa!
If we are going to do this, help is necessary. Huge! I am no event planner, i never even planned a small family gathering. So, a team of volunteers was formed. Each performed equally important role ... selflessly, passionately.
Since , the activity is supposed to be free, we needed sponsors. We approached them, some declined but still grateful to those who said yes. These are in the form of products to be raffled and distributed among participants. No monetary consideration.
Come the biggest challenge. The venue. We knew from the start that we wanted an airconditioned room. The numbers of people was not yet determined. We were nearing hundred by then. I only had one venue in mind . Kaisa Convention Hall. Ambitious! Imagine the joy when Mayor Cristy C. Angeles approved our request to hold the 1st Cake Picnic de Tarlac at Kaisa, FREE of charge! She manifested full support to bakers/ cake artists of Tarlac and their future endevours.
The plan of just a simple cake picnic became a big event. With over 500 people in attendance. Opening the door to the public is our way of showing them how grateful we are for their patronage. And to have their cake and eat it too! This is a No Cake, No Entry policy activity. We broke the rule.
The program included speakers from the Offices of DTI, DOST and PCCI of Tarlac. Vowing as partners of growth and development to our bakers. Sharing programs that is suited for their businesses, wheather a start up or established.
A short demo on how to create Floral Piping was conducted by Chef Regina Milan to the delight of many participants.
A selling space for baked goodies was assigned to our bakers. Where many lined up and buy some pasalubong.
The presence of City Administrator , Atty. Joselito Castro and City Information Officer Maureen Inocencio Clemente graced the occasion. Pledging support to future projects.
A surprise visit came from the Regional Director of DTI and Provincial Head. They congratulated us and managed to leave exciting works in the future for Tarlac bakers.
The heroes of the day were none other than the exceptionally talented and skillful bakers/cake artists. Most are homebakers but 3 big local bakery of Tarlac joined ... Gerties Bakeshop, Jelexie and Urdu. Bakers cladding on their peach pink uniform apron , carried their obra maestra with pride and grace.
With over hundreds of cake on display, it was a wonderland!!!
Truly unforgetabble.
