Dear Cebu Customers,
Back in 2022, when Typhoon Odette struck, I made one of the hardest decisions which is to temporarily close Island Sweets in Panglao. With almost two months of no electricity and the challenges of receiving orders, I had to pause and find a new path. I traveled to Cebu, hoping to find my luck and start anew.
After a year, Island Sweets by Hannah - Cebu was reborn, this time in Cebu. Unlike in Panglao, orders were fewer at first since I was still new and not yet known. But I kept going. I worked in the corporate world during the day and danced in the kitchen at night. My very first customers were my workmates, whose support fueled me to continue baking with love.
Fast forward to 2025, baking remained my side hustle — my stress reliever whenever office tasks piled up. But then came another storm. We thought this typhoon would only bring strong winds, but we never expected the massive flooding that followed.
My small home-based kitchen in Talisay City was not spared. I only found out this morning about the severe flooding while I was stranded in Panglao for the holidays, as boat trips were canceled since the night of November 2. Sadly, all my baking tools; my oven, mixer, spatulas, baking pans, and more — were washed out by the flood. Thankfully, my partner’s family is safe, as the house stands up to the third floor, though the first floor was completely damaged.
With a heavy heart, I’ll be temporarily closing Island Sweets by Hannah – Cebu once again. Still, I hold on to faith that in God’s perfect time, I will be able to rebuild everything, stronger and sweeter than before.
Thank you so much for all the love and support you’ve shown me throughout this journey. This is not goodbye... just a pause.
With love and gratitude,
Hannah
See you soon, mga suki! 💛🤎
