THE GOAL MATTERS...
"How do I include sweets during the holiday season?!?"
"It depends" feels like the least helpful answer ever, so I'm breaking down how I'd respond to this question based on a person's goal π€
Swipe if your goal is a healthy relationship with food, avoiding holiday weight gain, or to create social connection through shared desserts >>>
Other goals that might come up:
γ°οΈ To feel nourished through balanced choices: Incorporate "healthier" (I will always put any version of the word "healthy" in quotes because the definition is not universal) versions of traditional holiday sweets. Experiment with recipes that use natural sweeteners, whole grains, or incorporate fruits and nuts. For example, bake an apple crisp using oats and honey or create dark chocolate-covered strawberries as a festive, "healthier" dessert option.
γ°οΈ You desire portion control: Opt for mini-sized versions of classic holiday desserts. Mini pies, tarts, or cupcakes allow you to enjoy the flavors of the season without overeating. This way, you can taste different sweets without feeling overly full. Foods that are naturally portion-controlled can feel easier to moderate.
γ°οΈ For mindful celebration and participation: Choose one special sweet treat that you truly love and savor it mindfully. During holiday gatherings, instead of sampling every dessert available, pick the one that you're most excited about and enjoy it fully.

And remember - while goals can overlap, many times they just don't fit together. In some situations you can't actually have your cake and eat it, too π
Decide on your goal, consider how you'll feel "successful" on the other side, create a game plan, and bring intention to how you navigate. There's no wrong way to do this π
Personally, I focus on not feeling overly full - comfortable and content is the intended outcome. Slowing down and tuning into that body self-awareness is key for me, as well as making room in my belly for the yummy foods (hello, brownies) by leaving the not-as-worth-it ones (choco chips, other appetizers, crinkles, etc.) π₯°
