A bedtime story of how the Cozy Cabin came to be: it all started with a cookie.
Hi! It's D. Ever since I was little, whenever someone asks me what I want to be, I answer I'd love to be someone who makes pastries.
I got acquainted with the word "pastry chef" quite early, thanks to a bucket of pre-made cookie dough that I once - out of sheer luck - baked successfully... (which was kind of a big deal for me, since those of my older brothers' turned out to be total disasters)! I remember that being a proud moment, thinking I could possibly be really good at it.
Me and my late best friend N even tried to imagine and draw concepts of what our cafรฉ would be when we were still in elementary (if you're curious, our idea was inspired by the Gingerbread house from the story of Hansel & Gretel - and we thought of naming it Cuddles)!
Fast forward, I grew up crossing the path to a different career. When I've finished schooling, I was so glad to be gifted an oven. When I started working, my first pay slip was even invested in a stand mixer! I just can't turn the other ear from the call to fulfill the dream of the child within. I know I've always wanted to start baking.
A really busy year later, we found ourselves stopped on our tracks as the world's hustle and bustle was put on a halt. While 2020's going crazy, I have tried to keep my sanity.
With the luxury of time I had in my hands while staying at home, I finally got the chance to fill our kitchen with the smell of dough. Given that my partner L is obsessed with all kinds of cookies, I tried my hand at different recipes.
Surviving half a year with him called for a special celebration, and of course, a special cookie recipe. I've followed one of those I found was inspired by the world-famous 6-ounce cookie from Levain Bakery in NYC. It was good, but not perfectly the way we wanted it to be. Since then, we have researched extensively about cookie chemistry, studied techniques, and taste-tested several batches until we have come up with a recipe we can proudly call our own. We loved it just as hard as we worked to achieve it.
During such troubling times where a lot of us are restless and unable to cuddle up to our loved ones, the warmth of baking beautiful bread and delightful desserts was comforting - and we wanted to share that feeling. Hence, the creation of the Cozy Cabin. ^^
All this was made possible by the combined efforts of our wonderful friends who have eagerly expressed their encouragement: to T who helped us conceptualize the logo, to Y who volunteered to make our box's layout, to S who took the product launch photos, to M who relentlessly vouches for the quality of our cookie, and to everyone else who supported us through providing honest feedback important to improving the brand - our hearts let out massive thanks to each of you.
Tl;dr: Don't give up on that dream just yet. Hold on to the "why" so you can work around the "how's." Start with where you are, with what you have. Every little thing eventually adds up. Surround yourself with people who would genuinely want to help you progress. Most importantly: believe that you can become that version of yourself.
