We met up with Kokok last week, some of you know his story from the pera-paraan feature, and we talked about all things “hard” that has just overcome him lately. He’s been working since he was 13 to feed his family of 8, as his Dad struggles with addiction (he’s the eldest kid). I’m just in awe of his awareness, and acceptance of these non-controllable life and family situations. Our ministry deals in mess and problems but man our kids have learned to walk towards it and it just makes my heart jump. It’s easy to wallow in sadness, wonder why you, even give up- but they don’t. They are young men that aren’t afraid, they want to have a conversation- an honest, uncomfortable one, where options are discussed and help is asked. So we did, discuss, make a game plan, see his goals as they are, and ask for help (which is my job to you amazing partners). And I’m just excited, not because we have all the solutions, but something better. I’m excited because I see a young man stepping into his faith in a God that is taking him by the hand and leading him to glory(Ps 73:23-24). I see Kok knows that this journey of decision making will make him more like our Father (Gen 15:1) who is our great reward. And I’m excited as I know this means he ain’t gonna choose to gaslight his future wife or children, he will handle things with honesty and courage because he is becoming a man of God. Hope is in the becoming, and I’m totally here for it.
