You might notice something a little different with our cake menu this season.

We used to always spend Christmas over at our grandmother’s house in Magallanes. My memory of her is still intact—of the green dress she would wear to mass every morning in honor of St Joseph; of the astringent smell of the dayap which would drop from the now long dead bush straight into the swimming pool. She would use the fruit to scent little pastillas studded with fresh macapuno (always from the trees on her properties in Calauan, Laguna) which I remember always eating while they still had a bit of chill from the freezer.

Last week, mom finally found a copy of her pastillas recipe and I felt like I’d found a part of her I could always keep with me. And I figured I would share that with you all this Christmas. For Lola Dely. 🍀

Pick and mix and customize your own set of pastry boxes to give away to everyone who matters (or maybe to people who don’t, we won’t judge).
