Book of Job 1:20–21 reminds us of one of the deepest expressions of faith:
The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away.
This verse comes at a moment when Job had just lost everything his possessions, his children, and his security. Yet instead of turning away from God, he chose to worship.
Reflection:
Life often brings seasons of gain and loss. It’s easy to praise God when everything is going well, but much harder when things are taken from us. Job’s response shows a faith that is not dependent on circumstances. He recognized that everything he had was a gift from God, and even in loss, God remains worthy of praise.
This teaches humility and trust. We don’t always understand why things happen, but we are reminded that God’s sovereignty goes beyond what we can see. True faith is not just in receiving blessings, but in continuing to honor God even in pain.
Simple takeaway:
Even when life feels unfair or painful, we can still choose to trust God’s heart. Blessings may come and go, but His presence remains constant.
Short closing line:
Lord, teach me to praise You not only in abundance, but even in loss.
