Recently, DOST Northern Mindanao, led by Regional Director Engr. Romela N. Ratilla, together with the SETUP Regional Project Management Unit and DOST Camiguin, visited SETUP-assisted local enterprises in the province of Camiguin: Chads and Wils Dried Seafood Processing, Licot Bakeshop, Mars Printing Services, and 3C’s Sweet-Treats Snack Bar.

It was observed during the visit that these enterprises have achieved remarkable gains after DOST intervention:

✔️ Production time cut by up to 50% with mechanized equipment
✔️ Higher product quality and consistency, boosting market competitiveness
✔️ Sales growth averaging 30–40%
✔️ Tripled production capacity, supplying both local and regional markets
✔️ Expanded reach from local distribution to wider commercial networks
✔️ Secured FDA License to Operate

Beyond numbers, these impacts mean more jobs, sustained livelihoods, and stronger local value chains—benefits that ripple throughout the community.

Three local food businesses in Northern Mindanao, Licot Bakeshop in Camiguin, Eron’s Pasalubong Treats in Bukidnon, and MJS Food, Inc. in Lanao del Norte, have recently secured their License to Operate (FDA-LTO), with MJS Food also obtaining Certificate of Product Registration (FDA-CPR) from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These milestones were achieved after the businesses availed of consultancy and training services provided by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 10.

Licot Bakeshop in Catarman, Camiguin has officially entered into a Technology Licensing Agreement (TLA) for the adoption of the Nutribun technology developed by the Department of Science and Technology - Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI).

The signing ceremony was graced by Mr. Jomar C. Licot, owner of Licot Bakeshop, alongside his father, Mr. Carlos Licot, and witnessed by the Provincial Science and Technology Director of PSTO- Camiguin, PD Joanne Katherine R. Banaag. This milestone represents a significant step in expanding the bakeshop’s product offerings while contributing to national nutrition initiatives. Through the adoption of Nutribun technology, Licot Bakeshop is committed to producing fortified bread that meets high nutritional standards, ensuring healthier and more nutritious food options for the community.
