It's not too late to be self sufficient, I think it best to do it at this point in time when I have the space, the back sides of the house or a garden if I could afford a small plot of land. I have read much about growing one's own food, cultivating a vegetable garden which is a familiar practice by the French peasants of old who created "potager" or soup garden. What they did was dedicate a part of the land, specifically the backside of the house where most household kitchens are placed. The set up clearly suggests that whenever a need arises, since french meals are always soup based, there are ingredients just a door step away. But there's more to being self sufficient, a deeper meaning in the form of self preservation, Fertilizer and pesticide-ridden crops have become the norm that people basically have become oblivious to its existence. So while I live IN THE COUNTRY I will uphold the opportunity of enjoying its blessings and abundance by working with my hands, like people of old who have diligently worked their land not needing much money for survival because they neither worked in exchange for financial gains but were simple and self providing.
