Our Story
Cucina ni Mama Lyn traces its roots back to Ligaya’s Variety Store and Refreshment Parlor, a beloved family business established in the early 1990s by the family’s matriarch, Marilyn Aguilo, affectionately known as “Nang Marilyn.” With the unwavering support of her husband, Jorge Aguilo—fondly called “Nong Jorge” or “Nong Jot”—and the helping hands of their children, what began as a simple sari-sari store soon became a cherished gathering place in Alburquerque, Bohol.
The business evolved naturally when neighbors started asking Nang Marilyn to cook instant noodles and eggs for them to enjoy at the store. Seeing the growing demand, she expanded the menu and introduced Halo-Halo—the first of its kind in Alburquerque—which quickly became a local favorite. She later added her homemade bread and other snacks, turning Ligaya’s into one of the town’s most popular hangout spots. It welcomed not only Alburanons but also visitors from neighboring towns and travelers passing through.
Like many family businesses, Ligaya’s eventually faced challenges. By the early 2000s, as the Aguilo children pursued their college education and new opportunities, the business gradually slowed down and eventually closed its doors.
Although the store was gone, Nang Marilyn’s passion for cooking and baking never faded. She continued preparing homemade dishes and baked goods for family, friends, and loyal customers. Deep in her heart remained the dream of opening a place where people could once again enjoy her home-cooked food.
That dream finally came to life in January 2024 with the opening of Cucina ni Mama Lyn, inspired by Nang Marilyn’s enduring passion and shared by one of her daughters, who embraced the family’s love for food and hospitality.
Today, Cucina ni Mama Lyn is more than just a restaurant. It is a celebration of family, tradition, and the comforting flavors of home. We proudly serve well-loved Boholano family favorites—from hearty sud-an and comforting pamainit to freshly baked pan (bread), a staple of every Filipino snack time. Most of our dishes are prepared using treasured family recipes that have been passed down through generations.
Our mission is simple: to provide a warm, homey place where Alburanons and visitors alike can gather over delicious food while creating meaningful employment opportunities for members of our local community.
At Cucina ni Mama Lyn, every meal is served with love, every recipe tells a story, and every guest is welcomed like family.
