tomatoes. This name created confusion amongst some cooks who did not realise that tamarillos require peeling before they can be enjoyed. The tangy, juicy flesh and vibrant colour make tamarillos ideal for sauces, chutneys, relishes, jams, jellies and vinegars. For the love of Tams Tamarillo Vinegar Dressing is excellent drizzled over salads. Or spoon over barbecued meats, steamed vegetables or cooked seafood. Add to butter sauces for meat or fish; add to marinades; whisk with olive oil to serve as a dip for crusty bread; or combine with mayonnaise to dress potato or other vegetable salads. For a simple dessert, try our For the love of Tams Tamarillo Vinegar Dressing drizzled over strawberries and serve with whipped cream. For the Love of Tams Tamarillo Relish adds pizzazz to barbecues. This is primarily because:
Mineral availability: The acetic acid in vinegar helps to make the minerals in food more soluble and therefore more available for absorption by the body.
Counteracting inhibitors: Leafy greens often contain compounds, such as oxalates, that can inhibit calcium, iron, and magnesium absorption. The addition of an acid, like that found in a vinaigrette dressing, helps to counteract these inhibitors, which is why vinaigrette is an excellent accompaniment to salads.
