Crop Swap

Crop Swap is an event where people meet to share goods they have in surplus from their kitchen or garden. It follows the idea of ‘give what you can, take what you need’. This is a community led movement that occurs all around the world. In Wellington, currently Crop Swap occurs on the second Saturday of every month in Newtown - but we would love for more Crop Swaps to pop up around the region! Crop swap Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) aims to facilitate small steps towards creating more resilient communities, in terms of sharing resources - ultimately allowing everyone to walk away with more than they came with! A big part of Crop Swap is to break down community disconnection, by bringing people together over the medium of sharing goods. So to facilitate that, we always mill around the swapping tables with a cup of tea, coffee, kombucha and sometimes some baking! This is a safe space to meet others, share ideas, discuss issues, create community and of course get some free kai! Crop Swap is always open to suggestions, feedback, adjustments and help. At the moment, we are aiming to rotate who leads/organises the event each month, allowing for more diversity of perspectives and styles.

Big mihi to People’s coffee for sponsoring our delicious cuppa’s and Newtown Community centre who gives us the room for a koha!
