✨ WE’RE BACK UP AND RUNNING! ✨
After a hectic few weeks, Roberts St Cakery is finally back to operating as normal.
Between having our new solar system installed, starting renovations around our home and workspace, and trying to keep the business running smoothly, it’s certainly been a stressful period!
Unfortunately, we also learned an expensive lesson along the way.
Needing additional refrigeration for the cakery, we purchased a French door fridge freezer from Facebook Marketplace. The seller assured us it was working and explained that it had only just been turned on, so while the display was operating, it hadn’t been running long enough to cool down.
After transporting it home, rearranging part of the cakery to fit it, and getting it set up, we discovered the freezer worked perfectly but the fridge compartment didn’t cool at all. The display functions, but the fridge itself appears to have an internal component fault.
We contacted the seller straight away after the discovery and were offered a $100 partial refund. Unfortunately, that would still leave us significantly out of pocket and responsible for disposing of a large non-working appliance, so we requested to return it for a full refund instead. He said he had started his roasters seven on seven off work shifts and wouldn’t do anything till Wednesday. Which has come and gone.
Since then, communication has stopped.
It’s disappointing because the seller came across as genuine and trustworthy, and we took him at his word. Sadly, sometimes things aren’t quite as they seem.
So, let this be a reminder from us: when buying second-hand appliances, always insist on seeing them fully operational and cooling properly before handing over your money.
The good news is that despite the setbacks, we’re back creating cakes and moving forward. 💕
Has anyone had a similar experience with a faulty appliance purchase? Any suggestions on what our options are now, or recommendations for appliance disposal around Waihi?
Thanks for all your continued support while we’ve navigated the chaos! ❤️
