Heat Tempered Timber = Enhanced Performance

Heat tempering (also known as thermal modification) is a game-changer. It boosts the timber’s stability and lifespan, turning it into a stronger, more environmentally responsible building material.

Since the technology was first developed in the ‘90s, thermally modified wood has been growing in popularity, and for good reason.

Built on Feedback / The new 75mm Cladding Screw is arriving.

Our new 75mm Cladding Screw, replacing the 65mm version, gives builders and installers greater flexibility while retaining all the features they know and trust.

Developed in response to customer feedback, the additional 10mm length helps accommodate installations over rigid wall underlays and other applications where extra fixing length is beneficial.

Importantly, this is not a redesign. The new 75mm screw features the same:

⭐ Proven stainless steel construction
⭐ Torx drive head
⭐ Self-countersinking head
⭐ Serrated thread
⭐ Knurled shoulder
⭐ Type 17 self-drilling tip

These proven features have made the Abodo Cladding Screw a preferred fixing solution for timber cladding projects.

Form meets function in this all-timber outdoor sauna, thoughtfully designed for wellness and relaxation. The Vulcan Timber Sauna’s brief required a wellness space that blends seamlessly into an established pool area, providing an easy transition between hot and cold therapies

“Abodo Vulcan was selected because it is thermally modified through a heat and steam process, rather than chemically treated. This process alters the timber’s cell structure, reducing its moisture uptake and improving its dimensional stability, making it particularly well suited to the demands of a sauna environment.” - Rick Hill, @‌madebyhideaway

Before the first Vaaro board left the pilot plant, there were five years of research behind it.

Creating a new class of feature timber required more than a great idea. It demanded scientific rigour, global testing partnerships, and a determination to challenge what's possible with timber.

Led by Abodo's innovation and R&D teams, and supported by Ministry for Primary Industries throughout the development process, Vaaro was shaped through extensive testing and independently verified performance data.

Today, Vaaro stands as proof that innovation, when backed by expertise and persistence, can redefine the future of timber architecture.

Hamilton Central Library is one of the first completed civic projects to feature Abodo's new Vaaro® Fire timber.

Specified by Edwards White Architects, the façade required a Type A fire compliant* timber solution that could also deliver the warmth and visual impact only natural wood can provide. The result is a striking civic landmark where Vaaro Fire forms the backdrop to a dynamic Māori proverb installation and integrated lighting design.

This project demonstrates how architects can incorporate timber into higher-risk applications without compromising compliance or design intent.

Nordic roots meet native bush at the Maritime Residence.

Designed by Jones Architects to reflect the homeowners’ Scandinavian heritage, the home relies on a clean, linear palette that lets the surrounding environment lead.

Outside, Vulcan® Cladding with a bandsawn finish in Protector™ – Natural creates a soft, tactile backdrop against the lush green canopy. Vulcan Screening adds privacy and dappled light to the covered outdoor room, beautifully paired with white brick for a subtle textural contrast.
