Tauranga Death Cafe

Tauranga Death Cafe We offer pop up discussions of death over tea and cake in local cafes. The Death Cafe is a world wide global movement of death positivity

A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session. The articles and information posted on this page are not necessarily the views of Tauranga Death café, just information sharing to spark thought and discussion.

WHAT IF THINKING ABOUT DEATH COULD HELP YOU LIVE BETTER?

Death is one of the few experiences we all share — and yet most of us rarely talk about it.

🌿 MEETING MORTALITY – AN INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP 🌿

Friday 11 September | 1:00–2:30pm
📍 Greerton Library, 139 Greerton Road

Rather than avoiding the subject, come along and get curious about death.

This interactive workshop is an opportunity to explore our ideas, assumptions and feelings about mortality — and then turn our attention back to the life we are living.

💭 What really matters to you?
💭 Are you spending your time and energy on what matters most?
💭 What could you change, embrace or do more intentionally?

Because perhaps thinking about how we die can help us think more deeply about how we want to live.

Come along, have a conversation, get curious and see if meeting mortality might just change the way you look at life. 🌱

Everyone welcome.

Dying Matters Week Aotearoa 💛

Dying Matters Week Aotearoa is a wonderful opportunity to have open, honest conversations about death, dying, grief and the choices we can make for ourselves and our loved ones.

This year, Tauranga has some fantastic events happening, offering practical information, inspiring conversations and a chance to connect with others in our community.

From planning your legacy and learning about end-of-life choices, to talking openly about death and what matters most — there is something for everyone.

Come along, get involved and start the conversation.
Because talking about death doesn’t take away from life — it can help us live it more intentionally. 🌿

Keep an eye on this page for details of the wonderful Dying Matters Week events happening across Tauranga.

Your legacy starts long before you die

What will you leave behind?

Not just your possessions or your money—but your stories, your values, your wisdom, your relationships, your wishes and the memories people carry of you.

This year’s Tauranga Dying Matters Expo explores the theme “Shaping Your Legacy”—and it’s about much more than death.

It’s an invitation to think about what matters to you now, and how the choices you make today can shape the legacy you leave behind.

Come along, ask questions, start conversations, discover what’s possible and perhaps even begin some conversations you’ve been putting off.

💬 Your legacy is being shaped every day. What do you want yours to say?

📅 Sunday 13 September 2026
📍 Tauranga Dying Matters Expo

Come along—and bring someone you love. Please share this post and help us get the conversation going. ❤️

If you could choose one song as your life anthem or to memorialise your time on earth, what would it be?

Share your song choice and the meaning behind it in the comments, and we’ll add it to New Zealand's Ultimate Funeral Playlist. Don't forget to tag the friends or family who need to hear your pick, so they don't take over the music!

Listen to the top 10 songs live on Beagle Radio Saturday 12 September at 12 pm, or on Spotify for the full playlist.

Join the conversation and shape your legacy during Dying Matters Week, happening 7-13 September across Aotearoa. Find events near you: gowithgrace.nz/dyingmatters

💬 When was the last time you had a conversation about death?

Most of us don't get many opportunities to talk openly about death, dying, or what really matters. At Tauranga Death Cafe, we create a welcoming, respectful space where those conversations can happen naturally over coffee and cake.

You're warmly invited to join us on Saturday 25 July, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm, at Patio Rose Cafe, 528 Cambridge Road, Tauriko, Tauranga.

Whether you're returning or coming along for the first time, you'll find a friendly group of people who are curious, thoughtful, and open to conversation. There is no agenda, no pressure, and no right or wrong perspective—just an opportunity to explore a topic that touches us all.

Bring your curiosity, your questions, and an open mind.

We'd love to see you there. Feel free to share this post with anyone who might enjoy joining the conversation.
