Clean Conscience "A conscious effort to create a clean conscience"
Let's clean up our homes, our environment and our bodies by creating awareness and inspiring action.

This is a call to action to create an environment that we are passionate about and can feel safe in. Here at Clean Conscience, you will find almost everything you need to create a home that is low-tox, happy and healthy as well as products that I use in my own home and for my own family that I feel passionate about and am proud to share with you. Let us create awareness of what we are using in our homes, on our bodies, on our children.

Well that was fun! Workshop #1 smashed out and a big success.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along today. Thanks for your patience while we were whipping up our goodies and a huge thank you for sticking with me through my nervous ramblings! It's all very new to me and I learned so much about how it can all work more efficiently next time ❤
Thank you to the teams from Sustainable Queenstown and Wanaka Wastebusters for creating the event and allowing me to share my work and my passion with everyone who came along. You guys rock!
Also thank you to Watts Good Creations for supplying us with the awesome soap.

There will be a follow up email sent out to everyone with a list of places you can buy essential oils and soaps as well as a few websites that have some great tips and recipes for DIY products.

We have pretty much everything else you'll need here at Clean Conscience so feel free to send me a message if you need anything or have any questions.

Big love and I hope you all enjoyed your sunday morning :)

Hey team 👋
How are we all? Just a few days out from the DIY cleaning products workshop at Sherwood and as promised, here are some tips and info about making products in your own home.

Essential Oils! To use, or not to use?

I have a selection of essential oils I use for cleaning products. Citrus ones like Lemongrass, Grapefruit and Lemon seem to be popular ones and then of course Lavender and Orange are requested a bit too.
They're not necessary at all and dont necessarily add cleaning power to washing powder but things like tea tree that has antiseptic properties can be a good addition to your cleaning spray for your bathroom.

Some people are quite sensitive to essential oils so you can definitely give these a miss in any products you make if you prefer.

I purchase in larger bottles from Pure Nature and Go Native and they're well priced and very economical. A little goes a long way.

Hope that's been a little bit helpful! I'll post another tip tomorrow and will talk about essential oil use at the workshop too.

Happy tuesday and don't forget to buy a ticket of you're keen to come along to the workshop! Sunday, 10-12 at Sherwood ❤❤

How exciting! Our workshop is only 10 days away 🤩
I thought I'd share a picture of things that might be helpful for anyone coming.

We are going to make washing powder and a surface spray (and a few surprises too😋) so here is a picture of how I store my products.

The bottle is just a standard 330ml bottle from Kombucha with a spray top attached. It's from an old spray and wipe bottle that someone gave me. Do you have any old screw top bottles or spray tops you can bring along so we can reuse them?

The larger jar is a gherkin jar! It's the perfect size to store 500g of washing powder. Old plastic pottles from things like yogurt can work too if you're a bit concerned about having glass around. As long as its airtight, you'll be fine! I use a tablespoon as a scoop 😉

The smaller jar holds 350g of scrub paste. It's like jif but a lot friendlier for the environment and our homes. I got this one from the warehouse for $1! Shallow jars work best for this so you can scoop it out easily.

Over the next few days I'll pop up some top tips and more info about making your own products.

We are running a workshop! Wahoo. Can't even wait to meet all the lovely people wanting to learn how to make a few changes in their homes to help the planet. 🌏❤
I'll share details for this as soon as I can so watch this space.

To help with this little venture, we are on the hunt for a few items.
⭐ Unused spray bottles with trigger sprays
⭐ Small glass bottles (usually 330ml) that will fit a trigger spray cap
⭐ Large glass jars that could hold 500g or more

If anyone local to Arrowtown/Queenstown has any of these they'd like to donate to us, that would be awesome and I'll draw one name out of a hat (quite literally cause we are old school here!!) and will make a little package of some of the products we will be making at the workshop you!

Just send me a PM if you have anything or would like to know more about the workshop :)

It's awesome to see our community making a commitment to reducing waste in people's homes and we are stoked to be part of it ❤

Great work Therm Outdoor. So amazing to see loads of businesses get on board with waste reduction. There is so much we can do as individuals and supporting companies that are aligned with our goals and values when it comes to the environment is a good place to start.

OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

As a company, we understand our responsibility to reduce the effect that our product and operations have on the planet and our natural surroundings.

We don't think it makes sense to build our business around encouraging kids to get out and enjoy nature, when behind the scenes we have been contributing to the worlds growing plastic problem, and damaging the very environment that we love so much.

2019 is an exciting year for Therm. We have tested, dissected, and inspected every part of our product life cycle, and we are starting over.

***

1. Plastic waste. You know those mountains of discarded water bottles we see everywhere - on the news, all over Facebook, the ones that have nowhere to go? Well, we are turning them into fabric and making them into garments.

From March 2019, all of our All-Weather Hoodies will be made from 100% Recycled rPET Fabric. This is created when used plastic products (such as water bottles) are crushed and melted, and then spun into new fibres to make fabric.

This process effectively reduces the amount of plastic waste in our environment and is much more energy efficient to produce than many types of materials - in fact it can take less energy to produce rPET fabric than wool.

So, what about all of our other designs? We are working on it. We have set a goal to use 100% Recycled rPET Fabric across all of our products by 2022. Every. Single. One.

***

2. Single use plastic. Ugh. Did you know it is standard market practice to package each garment inside a protective plastic bag, to keep it clean and dry on it's journey from the manufacturer? Even the ones that end up in shops - usually they have all, at some stage, been packed inside a single use plastic bag, which is then discarded as soon as it reaches the store.

We refuse to do this any longer.

From March 2019, all of our garments will be packaged in 100% Biodegradable and Compostable bioplastic bags, made from organic matter such as corn starch.

Throw it in with your compost and food scraps at home, and it will break down within 90 days. Even if it does end up in the land fill, as it is made from plant based materials it will decompose just like any other organic matter. How cool is that!?

BIG thanks to our partners www.earthstarch.com

***

3. More Single Use Plastic. Double Ugh. So how about our courier bags? Until now, each jacket bought from us online has been packed inside a single use plastic bag, then put inside another single use plastic courier bag to get to you. Sounds a bit ridiculous doesn't it?

The good news is that our company is still young and we are changing for the better RIGHT NOW.

From March 2019, all of our courier bags will also be made from 100% Biodegradable and Compostable bioplastic, made from plant based materials.

***

By implementing these 3 key practices, we are committed to changing the effect our company has on our planet, our children, and our future generations. We all need to do better, and as a company we are holding ourselves accountable.

Nature is our playground. Let's protect it.

Sorry I haven't replied to all of the messages. I'm trying to do a bit of a stock take so I can give you all of the info needed! It's proving a hard task with three little people needing to do lots of activities to keep them quiet!
I have some time tonight so will do some inventory stuff, make a list and put it all in an email.

Thanks again for all of the interest and lovely messages x

Here is my wee girls sunflower she grew to put a smile on your face because sunflowers rock!

Hi guys!! I have been really quiet lately. I've had some really huge things going on at home and things have been pretty rough.
I'm feeling better now but I've had to make some pretty huge decisions that have been a bit hard. Such is life!

On that note, Clean Conscience is looking for a new owner 😣😣😣😣

I've realised I just can't give it all the attention it needs and because I believe so much in what I do, I'd love to find someone to keep it going and make it into the amazing business I know it can be.

If you or anyone else you know thinks you would like to have a chat about it, flick me a message and we can meet up.

Big love people and I honestly have enjoyed being able to do what I do for you all over the years and thank you so much for all of the amazing support and best ever feedback.
