Today we were very lucky to have a special little visitor at Mountaineers! 🐮🤎

Ange brought in one of her two-day-old calves for the children to meet. The children loved having the opportunity to gently pat him, help feed him, and get up close with such a young calf.

What a wonderful hands-on learning experience for our tamariki and another special part of embracing our country setting here at Mountaineers. 🌿🐮

A big thank you to Ange for sharing this gorgeous little visitor with us! 🤎

Yesterday we had a wonderful visit to the Te Awamutu museum as we concluded our Matariki learning. ✨

The tamariki explored traditional Māori planting tools as Kerrin shared and demonstrated a variety of taonga and instruments. We enjoyed listening to Little Kiwi’s Matariki, met Marvin the puppet, and had meaningful kōrero about the whetū stars of Matariki. We also practised counting in both English and te reo Māori, making it a fun and engaging learning experience for everyone.

Thank you to the museum team for helping us celebrate and deepen our understanding of Matariki. 🌟

What a perfect day to be making delicious cheese puffs! 🧀🌧️

There’s nothing better than baking on a cold, rainy day, and the children had so much fun getting involved. A cosy winter activity enjoyed by all! 💛

🌟 What a wonderful way to wrap up our Matariki celebrations! 🌟

This week our tamariki enjoyed making a delicious homemade soup to share with our whānau at our Matariki evening. It was a beautiful opportunity for the children to contribute to a special community meal while learning about the values of Matariki – sharing, giving, reflection, and togetherness.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate with us. It was fantastic to see so many of our whānau enjoying the evening together, connecting as a community, and creating special memories.

We hope you all had a wonderful Matariki and found time to reflect, celebrate, and look ahead with hope for the year to come.

Happy Matariki from all of us at Mountaineers Childcare & Education. 💙✨

This week we have been learning about Hiwa-i-te-Rangi, the Matariki star of hopes, dreams, and aspirations. Hiwa-i-te-Rangi encourages us to think about our wishes for the future and the goals we would like to achieve.

Our tamariki have enjoyed exploring star gazing, sparking curiosity and wonder about the stars above us. We have also created a beautiful Wishing Tree, where each child has shared their hopes and dreams by adding a special wish. This has been a meaningful way to encourage children to reflect on their aspirations while celebrating the values of Matariki. ⭐️ 🌟 💫
