🍰 start with a soft butter
🍰 beat your butter until it is whipped, pale and fluffy
🍰 start adding your icing sugar in increments (1 or 2 cups add a time) beating for about 5mins between each lot
🍰 I personally like mine to rest over night before using it
🍰 the next day you can heat in 30sec increments mixing in between until you get your desired consistency

If the buttercream is airy in the bowl it will be airy on the cake, this helps get a smoother finish as well. These tricks would work with any American buttercream recipe.
