Hi guys.
Well i suppose it’s time to address the rumours .
After six incredible years, the time has come for us to close the doors on Old Mates and move on to the next chapter.
What a ride it’s been.
Old Mates started out as Old Mates Pizza & Pasta, slinging gourmet pizzas, pastas, and handmade breads to the good people of our community. Before long, things evolved into Old Mates Burgers & Stuff, where we got stuck into big gourmet burgers, pork ribs, wings, and a whole lot of other favourites. Alongside that we ran Old Mates Bread, baking fresh breads and mussel fritters etc that many of you came to love.
Over the years the business changed and grew in ways we never expected, but one thing always stayed the same — the incredible support from all of you.
From the regulars who came back week after week, to the new faces who gave us a go, to everyone who shared feedback, had a yarn at the counter, or told their mates about us — thank you. You’ve all been a huge part of this journey and we’re incredibly grateful for it. ❤️
A lot can happen in six years.
When I first opened the shop, I was a single man with no plans for a family. These days I’m a married man with a beautiful wife and a one-and-a-half-year-old son.
The main reason for closing the doors is simple — family. It’s time to step away from the hospitality grind and build something new that allows us to spend more quality time together.
From today until the end of May, we’ll still be trading from our shop, but we will no longer be operating at the Ohinemuri Park L&P Bottle site. As we wind things down over the coming weeks, our range will likely get smaller and smaller while we use up stock and bring things to a close.
This isn’t the last you’ll see of us though. We do have a new business in the works, and we’re excited about continuing to serve the community in a different way — just not in the food industry this time.
To everyone who has supported Old Mates over the years:
thank you for the laughs, the conversations, the encouragement, and for being part of something pretty special.
We’re sad to see this chapter end, but incredibly grateful for the memories.
Come in and see us before the end of May — we’d love to say goodbye properly.
With a full heart,
Old Mates 🍔🍕🥖
