The photos say it better than we can.

Yesterday was our first day back after 3 weeks away, and honestly, we didn't know what to expect. Would people still come back? Would they remember us after three weeks?

As the screenshots show... we needn't have worried.

The support yesterday was incredible. Time and time again we looked up to find the shop packed with familiar faces, new faces, and people patiently waiting for their pies.

We're genuinely humbled and grateful.

Thank you for supporting a small local bakery. Thank you for your patience during the busy periods. Thank you for welcoming us back.

We don't take any of it for granted.

🚨 WE'RE BACK! 🚨

After what felt like hundreds of missed calls, texts, messages, carrier pigeons, smoke signals, and possibly a search party...

📞 "When are you open?"
🥧 "I'm really needing a Pie Man pie."
😱 "Please tell me you're not actually closed."
🍩 "I need to order 100 ring donuts for Friday!"

Firstly, sorry to anyone who didn't realise we were on holiday. It seems some of you discovered we were closed by standing outside the door looking confused. 😅

For the first time in 10 years at The Pie Man, we actually took a proper mid-year holiday. We ate too much, walked too much, and somehow came back needing another holiday.

And before anyone asks...

✅ Yes, we still have Double Mince & Cheese pies.
✅ Yes, we're still making them.
✅ No, they didn't retire while we were away.

We also managed to miss Kosmos again while we were gone. At this point we're convinced he waitd until we leave town before showing up.

The ovens are hot, the cabinets are full, and the team is back on deck.

Please queue in an orderly fashion today. There's no need to push in. 😆

🏃‍♂️ HALF MARATHON DONE! 🏁

Official time: 1:45:01 😄

Unofficial time on my watch was 1:44:55 🙄

Firstly, a massive THANK YOU to everyone for all the support, encouragement, messages, comments, and especially the customers who came into the shop over the last few days to wish me well before the race. It honestly meant a lot and definitely helped carry me through today.

The race was tough in parts with sore legs, hills, and a bit of wind, but overall it was a really good run and I’m super happy with the result.

Now for the competition…

We had TWO people guess 1:45 exactly, which is unbelievably close to the official time of 1:45:01, so we’ve decided BOTH of you are winners! 👏👏

I’ll message the winners directly. Both will receive $250 worth of The Pie Man vouchers.

Thanks again everyone for getting involved. It made the whole experience even more fun and special.

This competition is pretty simple…

Our Pie Man has entered the Hawke’s Bay Marathon again this year — running the Half Marathon course of 21.1km! 🏃‍♂️🥧

The big day is Saturday 16th May.

Last year was his first attempt, where he mostly walked it and crossed the finish line in a time of 2 hours, 57 minutes and 3 seconds 😅

This year… hopefully there will be a lot more running involved 😂

🏃‍♂️ Training update:

Apparently “running a bakery” IS cardio 😅

You lot have kept me absolutely flat out lately with the Double Cheese Pies. Who needs hill repeats when I’m doing interval training between the oven, pie warmer, and front counter all day 🥧🧀

I reckon my smart watch is confused at this point.

“Workout detected: Panic sprint carrying hot pies.” 😂

Just over a week until the Hawke’s Bay Half Marathon now 😬

Meanwhile my official marathon preparation currently includes:
✔ Running late for wholesale orders
✔ Carrying trays of pies like weighted lunges
✔ Speed walking when someone asks “have you got any more Double Cheese left?”
✔ Carb loading accidentally every day

The taper has begun, which apparently means “eat everything in sight and question your life choices.” 😅

To be fair though… with the amount of running around this bakery lately, I’m expecting spectators on race day to hand me a pie instead of a sports gel.

“Here Roger, steak and double cheese at the 10km mark should get you home.” 🏃‍♂️🥧

And while most of the town is still asleep, this is today’s bread dough production already underway 👨‍🍳🍞

Still dark outside because we actually bake on site. We turn up early. REAL early.

Not 7am and opening the doors selling yesterday’s bake 😏

Fresh baked means fresh baked.

Should we run a little competition for our customers next week during race week? 👀

Doctor said I need to watch what I eat…

So now I look at my pie very closely…
…inspect it… admire it…

…then carefully place it straight into my mouth 😄

Thorough observation is important.

I even double-check with a donut…
You know, just to be sure everything’s up to standard.

Health is all about balance 👍

Also… the HB Marathon is getting closer 👀
Tapering has begun…

Which apparently means less running…
…and more eating 😏
