Maketū Pies is up for sale!
After more than doubling production in less than two years, and with strong foundations and a generational legacy, Maketū Pies is on the market, providing a unique opportunity for a new owner to take the beloved Kiwi brand into its next chapter.
We met with our Maketū-based team yesterday afternoon to update them on the latest developments, including a proposal to close the factory when its lease ends in December.
The factory was established in 1982 and unfortunately, it is no longer fit for purpose. It needs significant investment to bring it up to a modern facility, and with the lease on the site ending, it’s the right time to take stock.
The hard work of stabilising, modernising and repositioning the business has been done. Over the past two years, our presence has grown from fewer than 100 pie warmers to more than 600 across Aotearoa in addition to our distribution on supermarket shelves.
We know this news is difficult for our people and for the wider community. The proposal is now subject to consultation with our team, so we’re unable to say any more at this stage.
Our focus is on supporting our team through this process, and we will share a further update once we know more.
