Hi Peeps, just a quick update from us
Our nursery was not affected by cyclone Gabrielle in a major way, we didnt have flooding or property damage thankfully but our internet and power has been playing up so if there are delays in response we just ask for your patience,

Other than that we are up and running and fully functional to provide excellent avocado trees to the whole of New Zealand as usual.

This week our focus will be on dispatching the current orders and also planning on how to aid our local community. Many peeps have lost their entire gardens and homes, the full scale of the damage is yet to be determined but we are a tight-knit community here in Hawke's Bay and we look after each other

Happy weekend avocado lovers and growers!

Did you know avocado trees produce better, bigger and tastier fruit via cross pollination?
That’s good news, it means by growing different varieties close together you can get excellent fruit-set and extend your harvest period due to the different maturing times of different varieties.
Type B (Male flowering) varieties such as Edranol, Sharwil, Fuerte, Bacon, Hashimoto, Helen, Fujikawa, Queen and others are available right now to add to your garden.

Don’t be fooled, Type B varieties DO produce fruit and in our opinion produce some of the tastiest fruit
Here in this video you can see a 10 year old Zutano Avocado Tree at 3m in height with lots of tasty fruit. How many can you spot?

Here we have an excellent example of a Mini High Density Orchard planted by an avopro client 10 years ago. The trees produce tasty, large fruit. Here we have 6 trees planted around 1m away from each other. Watch until the end to see the variety Hopkin.

Hopkin is a beauty of an Avocado, large, tasty and creamy/ nutty. It can get to a whopping 900 grams to feed your village!

Have you ever purchased an avocado fruit that made you want to pull a finger?
We dont blame you and we can explain why
Avocados are heterozygous, meaning each fruit produced takes its genetics from mother and 'father' tree. This is why avocado trees which 'self pollinate' can produce 'Inferior Fruit'

Long story short: this is why cross pollination is important for the home grower. Cross pollination is what happens between 2 different varieties of avocados.

Karen and Phill travelled 300km+ to come and pick up their trees from avopro in Hastings over the weekend. We had a lovely chat and catch up and then they were off with their 6 large mature trees in the back of their car 👋

This is for the 'Reed' Avocado haters,
watch it and weep he he he
In all seriousness: We get a lot of peeps saying 'I don't like Reed, its so watery'
To that we say: Reed is one of the few only varieties that takes up to 18 months to mature and the Reed you tried must've been too young to pick resulting in a watery taste.
The reality is Reed has more oil content than 'Hass', it is naturally yellow fleshed and is one of the creamiest avocados around.
The Cherry on top? Reed is a Winter Avocado, usually maturing between March and July depending on where she is
The perfect companion for A Types such as Hass, Hayes, Mexicola, Mexicola Grande or B Types such as Bacon, Fuerte, Edranol, Sharwil and Zutano
