Hey everyone!
I know we’ve been off the radar for a while now. Just focusing on getting a rather big building renovated as you know and ticking off a long list of regulatory hurdles and fine tuning things aesthetically.
Ideas have been whirling around in my head recently, after years of experimenting with community focused initiatives, trialling different offerings, methods and menus and navigating complex hospitality dynamics I feel like it’s all condensed into a cohesive vision.
These experiences and an underlying passion for and close personal struggle with the complex issues we all seem to face in modern Western society have led to a clear vision for a new dynamic Wellness Hub that I am excited to establish here in Hastings.
I want to turn our Hastings building into a true community Wellness Club — a warm, welcoming space where families, parents, kids, the elderly in fact everyone can connect, create, move, eat, laugh, play, eat well, and support each other.
Here’s what we’re planning to trial in about 4 weeks: (Don’t hold me to this timeline but it’s not far off)
• A dedicated kids lounge with board games, old arcade games, fooseball, Lego, books, dress-ups, music & story telling. A space for kids to hang out surrounded by friends and in a safe family environment. This would include teenagers of course (may make a separate chill space for that age group too as they are particularly in need of a safe place to interact and grow without leaning on alcohol or getting into trouble.
A Gallery displaying artists work and as an event space but also as a dedicated space for creative play - Painting, felting, jewellery making, claywork & creative projects
A separate large dedicated daytime space for Mum’s & Babies
(OMWellness Mums club (or Dads of course))
In the evening this space would be for Evening activities for everyone - dance, drama, movie nights on bean bags, live music, large breathwork/yoga and Pilates sessions etc)
OMGoodness cafe and bakery would be open during the day as a cafe to the public but after 3pm it would become a space for everyone to meal prep together - creating amazing dishes using mainly organic/local ingredients prepping a set meal and providing nourishing food for around $10 adult and $5 a child. Everyone would cook and clean up together.
Yoga and other classes would be operating in the OMWellness clinic upstairs also and parents would be able to attend easily leaving their child in the care of a friend or under supervision with one of our team.
The skate park is right around the corner for easy outdoor time. Wellness riders operate a kids skate club there and there is basketball courts etc for easy outside play. There’s also a new walled park being established directly behind us which would be great for the mums club and for kids to run around as it’s close to the kids lounge.
We’ll start small with a couple of trial nights to guage demand and fine tune the setup and then hopefully grow it based on what you love.
This is kind of a pitch to you all and I’d love your honest feedback!
Please like this post if you are into it and it makes you feel excited. Please comment and let me know what aspect or aspects particularly appeal to you and what you think you would be interested in participating in and also how often just so I can get an idea if I’m on the right track! Also any creative ideas that you think would fit nicely are welcome!
Ideally if this proves really popular and easy to manage (would rely on everyone acting responsibly and helping keep the space tidy and cared for of course) then it could be open every night until 9pm and on weekends too.
This feels right, really right and I hope it resonates with you too!

Cafe & gallery opening very soon — can’t wait to welcome you!
BTW
This is an effort to address the widespread challenges of isolation and disconnection, boredom, addiction and mental illness, emotional distress and ongoing day to day drudgery that feels more like survival rather than living and the economic hardship many people are facing. This became extremely apparent after recently returning from a stint in Bali filled with culture, community and vitality and has reinforced my commitment to help to shift these damaging and long embedded dynamics here in my hometown.
I’m excited to share this vision with you and if it becomes a reality it would be a real dream come true for me, benefiting people of all generations, socio economic groups and cultures. We all seem to live separate lives, disengaged from each other even though we live close together and there’s a distinct lack of options available to engage easily with others of various cultures and age groups. It all takes so much effort and I don’t believe it needs to be this difficult.
