👇🏼History of the ANZAC biscuit 🍪❤️
This humble, yet delicious, biscuit dates back to World War I, when families in NZ and Australia sent food to their beloved soldiers overseas (ANZAC = Australian & NZ Army Corps).
Made from simple pantry staples like oats, flour, sugar, golden syrup, and coconut, the biscuits were designed to travel well and last a long time.
No eggs - to avoid them spoiling on the long sea journey.
Abroad, soldiers were living on ‘hard tack’ (military ration) and so these biscuits became a small comfort from home. 💝
Golden, chewy and made with love.
Over time, they’ve became closely tied to ANZAC Day (25 April), which commemorates the soldiers who have served and died in wars and conflicts.
🍪 Rüdi’s version of the ANZAC biscuit stays true to the classic while being vegan-friendly, using coconut oil. Available in-store by the bag.
✨We also have an ANZAC special - a croissant swirl with vanilla buttercream, finished with a mini ANZAC biscuit on top. Sadly this isn’t vegan, but it is certainly delicious.
Available until ANZAC Day tomorrow (Saturday).
We’ll be open from 7.30am for those heading in after the dawn service
Coffee and fresh bakes will be ready for you. ☕️🍞🥐
A public holiday surcharge will apply (to cover the additional staffing charges)
