Kia Orana peeps!

First I would like to apologise for not posting here about closing up shop for 2023. I had posted in my IG bout it and realised I had not made a post here. I’ve moved to Auckland to study for a year in Tāmaki Makarau with The Actors’ Program. So that is what’s happened. It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do but never followed through with. But here I am and am grateful to have been chosen. It’s been 4 months already and I have learned so much. I’m glad I made the jump.

Secondly, the fate of Kuki Doh. Where to from here? As much as I wanted to both, reality says otherwise. The amount of mahi and time needed for TAP is huge and juggling between the two will be impossible. Could I start up here in Aucks? Maybe. But I couldn’t give it the time to do so nor would I have enough of it to learn lines, homework etc..

So I would like to thank you all for supporting your local. For all the friendly faces and repeat customers. I thoroughly enjoyed waking up early hours to prepare Cook Island donuts to the masses. If I do return home to Ōtautahi, I will start back up and with a team in a food truck. That was the plan to advance anyways. No. Kuki Doh won’t close for good. Just for now until studies finish up. Again, thank you all for your patience and support.

So I’m fundraising again!! I’ve been called in for round 2 auditions at The Actors’ Program in Tamaki Makarau and so for 3 weekend’s, I’ll be making 200 donuts every Saturday and on the third week introduce a soft launch for my new Breakfast menu! Can’t wait for you to try!! Would love your support for and my dreams to come true! I’ll track all donations via the fund pool! Despite the results from this audition, I’ll continue to learn and love acting no matter what City I’m in. Christchurch will always be home to me and I will ALWAYS come back! 3 months ago when I started this journey, I had the ability to share part of my culture through food and it has been great!

What hasn’t been so good is the price hike in ingredients. Namely flour and oil.

So to keep up with demand, a price increase is imminent but will make a few positive changes too. Here there are as follows:

🍩 Donut sizes will increase 10g
🍩 Remix box will now include 2 x Classics (Shugah) and 1 x Original along with Kuki Krumble, Kokonut Ruff and Tim Tam Slam
🍩 Box size has increased by 1cm to accomodate the new sizing of donuts

I’m also looking at getting custom food paper made up too and other things for a more pleasing unboxing experience.

“What’s the difference between a normal donut and a Cook Island donut?”
I get asked this a lot. There’s several reasons but I’ll name a couple.
1) They’re both savoury and sweet.
It’s has a lil bit of sweetness to it, not too much that it spikes sugar levels. Savoury, cos you can use it as a dipping spoon with your favourite dishes: chopsuey, minise, stews, curries. It’s the perfect complimentary partner!
2) They are usually plain like these Originals right here and they’re made to be eaten a few minutes outta the fryer. They can last up to 3 days to be consumed and even then there’s room for it to expand into other things! (More on that later)
So there you have it. The Cook Island donut is versatile, a lil bit sweet, crunchy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. So get your pre-orders in! 🤌🏽🍩🤤🇨🇰.
