We’re deeply saddened to share the passing of someone who helped shape our journey from the very beginning - Calum Finlayson, or to most of us 'Cal'.

Cal was with us from the start in 2022, when Taranaki Prime was just an idea. He wasn’t one for the spotlight, but he had a quiet way of backing people and ideas he believed in - and that belief helped bring this business to life.

Cal had a real love for great meat and fine dining. After trying our Dexter beef for the first time, he became one of our biggest advocates. He believed deeply that Taranaki and New Zealand farmers deserved recognition for the incredible product they produce, and he was proud to help showcase them and tell that story.

More than anything, Cal will be remembered for his support, his humour, and the space he created for ideas to grow.

Our love and thoughts are with his loving partner Raewyn, who stood beside Cal through the move to Taranaki and throughout this journey, and with his family and friends who have lost someone truly special.

We are incredibly grateful for the role Cal played in building Taranaki Prime and his legacy will continue through the values, the work, and the business he helped shape.

Thank you for believing in the vision, Cal. You and your love of the blues will be genuinely missed around here.

Rose Gold Veal begins its story just down the road in Inglewood, where farmers LeAnne and Ian Blakelock of Summitt Holdings raise beautiful Rose Gold Veal and Beef on the lush, fertile pastures Taranaki is famous for.

Running a Jersey cross dairy herd, LeAnne and Ian carefully rear calves alongside their dairy operation to supply the premium dairy-beef market. With a focus on science, genetics and best-practice animal welfare, they’re passionate about producing food that is transparent, traceable and high quality, which perfectly aligns with our values here at Taranaki Prime.

Their calves are raised free-range on rich Taranaki pasture, resulting in Rose Gold Veal that is ethical, authentic and exquisitely tender.
