Kath the goat

Kath the goat Kath lives with Loretta, Dapple and one hardworking Staff member on Waiheke Island, New Zealand. Kath is an Alpine Nubian cross with ideas above her station.

UPDATE a more informed person (thanks Bella!) tells me this is a scam going round. There was a link apparently which I was too huffy to click on. Huffiness rules!
Therefore more details on Loretta (my Last Goat) and her dietary requirements.

SPOILER: gingernuts acceptable but Weetbix going down in popularity.

I have been informed, apparently by Facebook, that this page has transgressed in some secret way they seem unprepared to tell me. They said they are therefore going to delete it.
So this may be goodbye.
All things come to their ends.
Goodbye from staff and from Loretta.
It's time for me to prepare her 2 gingerbiscuits crumbled over goat nuts and presented alongside but not mixed with (ideally) brown rice and wheat. There may not be enough brown rice left, but staff hopes dry pasta will suffice.

😭😭😭😭😭 So, Cody and Bruce have located 2 cockatoos that have just moved to the property. Pablo has been seen multiple times flying along Great South Road right by this property.

It's quite probable he has been drawn to them.

I'm so sorry everyone 😢 it seems the sqwarking this evening was the cockatoos. They are still looking though.

Thank you sooooooooo much for everything that rushed out and all the offers of help.

Deflated! 😭😭😭🤯

Well, that was interesting. Staff often goes for a brisk walk in the evening with the dog. We go around the base of the goat territory. Quietly. Without goatly input.
However tonight the dog found an especially large hedgehog. She doesn't seem to harm them but is able to carry them home unless discouraged. Firmly. And tonight LOUDLY and repeatedly. And, of course, the goats heard. First Dapple, then Loretta called out to ask what we were up to, then they decided to come down in the dark to find out, appearing like ghosts.
So we had to trek up the hill through the long wet grass together, soaking staff's sneakers and socks.
Loretta can tolerate the dog in daylight, but doesn't like her much in the dark. The dog usually picks up a stick to discourage her, but her weapon of choice tonight was a chunk of firewood. As I neared the house, she apparently thought better of staying with me and vanished under the fence into the night presumably to avoid two excited goats.
She took this great chunk of wood with her, and was awaiting me at the front door with it.
Better than a hedgehog I suppose.

For the last few days either Loretta or Dapple has been standing on the gum stump on the bank (aka The Moral High Ground) once Kath's morning position. It seems a sign that things are shaking down into their new form without Kath, although the two aren't particularly close yet.

In what seems a long time ago Deborah Kelland took some beautiful photos of Kath.

Staff sadly must announce that Kath's great heart beat it's last today around noon. She'll be laid to rest in a sunny spot at the top of the hill.
Much missed.

Staff has finally lifted and stacked the remaining bricks from the old kiln site. First Loretta spotted the possibilities of the sand beneath them as a lounging pad, but Kath has evicted her and the two Nubians are in possession

Staff was delighted to see Kath once more claiming the Moral High Ground and surveying the scene after a week of no appetite and dismally floppy ears.

Kath has always love loquat leaves. When she first came her and I had trouble getting her to eat, they were the food that got her eating. Consequently, she has primed all the trees up beyond easy reach
We found a broken off branch today! Good to see her tucking in. I'll try dragging the remains back to Goatworld shortly.

Poor Kath, all she really wanted today was to sit in the sun. She wasn't interested in breakfast and only nibbled a bit of Casuarina to please me. I checked, and she is fifteen this year, well into old lady goat territory.

Staff's future kiln shed, the floor nearly level waiting only for some gravel.
However the goats (and one young chicken with ideas above her station) have adopted it as a sort of dayroom.
This does not bode well for kiln building.
