Last Saturday and Sunday was my first pop-up with MamaBowls.
We had been talking about this idea since last year, and we finally made it happen.
When you live far away from your childhood home, you naturally look for ways to reconnect with your roots. For me, one of the simplest ways is through food. Cooking the flavours I grew up with and giving them my own twist.
The first day of the pop-up was intense. It was my first time working in the MamaBowls kitchen, so I didn’t know what to expect. I was learning the workflow, understanding the space, and figuring out a system that worked for me.
After the first day, I changed the way I worked. That helped me prepare things faster and made everything feel more efficient.
The turnout for both days was really good, and I was so happy to see familiar faces. When things were quiet, I could chat with some of you. Other times, I could only wave hello from the kitchen.
If we’ve only interacted through social media before, I’m sorry if I didn’t recognize you immediately. It’s funny how different online and real-life connections can feel. That’s why I was so happy when some of you messaged me personally afterwards 😊
Working in a HORECA kitchen is not easy. You need to multitask, move fast, and stay organized. And honestly, you only learn these things through experience.
By the second day, I was having a lot more fun. I had optimized my workflow, felt calmer in the kitchen, and the millennial music playing at MamaBowls definitely helped calm my nerves 😆
Thank you for coming and supporting me. Living far from family can feel lonely sometimes, but the Wageningen community has truly made me feel at home 💛
