Marie Cakins Know-how: lifelong baking & Patissier diploma

Marie Cakins started because of my love for making honest pastries and the lack of original desserts in most places in Amsterdammostly serving cheesecake, carrotcake, bananabread or brownie. Since a young age, my mum included me in her daily baking and cooking activities and I learned in admiration cause everything she made always tasted and still tastes great. I then decided to go a bit into that

direction and attended a Hotelschool in Switzerland where I finished with a bachelor in Tourism. For the past years I was mostly working for Booking.com until I decided that I should give my real passion (baking) a try. I quit my job and it took quite a while to figure it out, however I then first attended a PME cake decoration course about sugar flowers, sugar paste and royal icing and received the diploma. After that I subscribed at the Bakery Institute in Zaandam for the 9 week pastry course, which I finished and received the diploma for in June 2017.

Just to let you all know that Marie Cakins has moved to Belgium!!!

A new chapter has begun! We are still busy getting accustomed to the new environment and house. And hopefully I'll be able to start the business up again.

In the meantime I keep practising with all the good fruit from my parents in law garden :-) and I'll keep you updated!

Here the result of one of my vegan tests. This is a lime 🍈 and lemon🍋 cake. Similar to a cheesecake with crispy dough around and a more creamy filling. With lime decoration.
Well it might look nice, but I wasnt completely in love... anyone has a good vegan recipe they like to share? Im afraid Im just too much into butter... 🙈🤗

Who says that it has to be all about the cakes 😁 I decided to post about me having finally some time to do other projects around the house now that the kids are at daycare again. 🤗
This time I finally put up those lovely name cards we received as a gift from when we ordered the birthcards with her for our little Edouard. He is now 7 months and they finally hang!🙈 Thanks again Stefanie!!!❤👍🥳

Pastel de nata always gets my mood up even if the weather isnt that great. Comfort food 3000!!!
I dont put a lot of cinnamon on mine so I can put a bit on top if I feel like it. It can be such an overpowering spice sometimes, although I do like it 😁

Some desserts are just best when they come fresh out of the oven!! Im thinking of adding a category to bake off at home on my website... what do you think?? What would you prefer?

When you take a month to make your hubby's birthday cake and it turns out this lovely 🥰🤗
I have to admit it didnt help that I was not really into the idea of a nougat glacé, but I have to say it turned out really well.🤤🤤🤤
Also nice that it keeps long (cause in the freezer), although something tells me it wont survive very long 🤔 and amazingly sunny 🌞weather doesnt help to prolong its life...
So this nougat glacé is made with caramelized almonds, pistachios and different dried fruits that were marinated in Grand Marnier. Omnomnom!

Better later than never, made thus Black Forest Charlotte a while ago! Thanks for that order! I almost forgot how much I love a good charlotte cake!!
I was never a huge fan of mixing chocolate with fruit (except maybe banana and strawberry), but on my old days 😏 Ill have to reconsider! Black forest is "da bomb" 🤯: fluffy biscuit with a creamy ganache and an airy cherry mousse! Topped off with fresh cherries, chocolate and vanilla whipped cream! 🤤🤤🤤
