As temperatures rise in the dry season, you sure want to preserve that costly bread loaf. Unless you want to eat your bread products right away (or within the hour), it has no business being kept at room temperature.

Wrap bread in paper, plastic, or polythene bags, and refrigerate. Freeze if you must and bring out of the freezer, leave to attain room temperature before eating. Bread containers specifically made for bread storage can also do wonders.

Like every other staple food and commodity good, the price of quality bread has experienced a consistent hike, making it increasingly far from the reach of the average Nigerian.

While reasons for the price hikes vary by region (worldwide), the common factors include:
• Inflation: This has increased the cost of raw materials used to make bread, like eggs and flour.
• Geopolitics: Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has driven up prices for energy in Europe, as well as grains, oilseeds, and fertilizers.

Local to the Nigerian market is the additional factor of the increasing rate at which the dollar exchanges for the naira.

There is also the concern of the middlemen. While a few good ones resell bread products to consumers at relatively reasonable prices, some are more interested in making over 100% of bread manufacturers' margin per unit.
