I’ve been a baker for years — still am.
But now that I’m also a caterer, I can say this with my full chest:

Bakers are not valued.

The difference is clear.
When people negotiate food, it’s straightforward.
Simple questions, quick agreement — boom, deal sealed.

But once it’s time for cake?
Two months of back-and-forth.
Undervaluing.
Pricing like they’re buying pure water.
And after stressing your life, they’ll still say they “got it cheaper elsewhere.”

Nobody asks a caterer:
“I can cook o, I just don’t have the time.”
“What rice are you cooking?”
“Are you using broken plate or plastic?”
“Is it firewood or gas you’re using?”

But once they meet a baker?
Their inner professional wakes up.

“I can bake o, I just don’t have the time.”
“Please don’t use sugar for my cake.”
“I don’t like soft cakes.”
“How long will it last? I want one-year cake.”
“You’ll come and present it o.”
“I don’t want buttercream, use something else.”
And the list is endless!

The truth?
Bakers are not valued — and we deserve better.
