I have a habit of following successful people. I listen to their stories, I study their principles and, thirdly, I pay attention to how different people treat or relate with them.
Let me talk about that third point briefly.
If you want to succeed, you must become comfortable with the fact that not everybody will like you.
Let me explain.
There is a certain kind of person who seems to always pick on successful people. They will criticize them, drag them, question their decisions or make them feel like they don't deserve what they have.
Sometimes it is jealousy. Sometimes it is comparison. Sometimes, people simply don't understand your journey.
So please, don't take every criticism personally or seriously.
I'm not saying you should ignore correction. Absolutely not. You will make mistakes, and you need people who can honestly point them out.
But there is a BIG difference between genuine correction and constantly picking on someone.
Some of these people may be your subordinates. Some may be your contemporaries. Some may even be your superiors.
But as one man of God once said, to fulfil destiny in this life, you need a pinch of stubbornness.
And by stubbornness, I don't mean rebellion.
I mean resilience.
The ability to say:
“I hear you, but I know where I am going.”
“I will learn from correction, but I will not allow constant criticism to derail me.”
“I will remain humble, but I will not make everybody's opinion my compass.”
If you plan to succeed in this life, especially financially, be prepared for the possibility that not everybody will like you.
Even Jesus, our Saviour, wasn't liked by everyone.
So do what is right. Keep learning. Accept genuine correction. Stay humble. Stay focused.
And keep moving.
