Did you know that Kek Lapis Bulan is a combination of Chinese tradition and Sarawak identity ❓

🔹Just mention the layer cake, many will associate it with Sarawak because the dish is very synonymous with Bumi Kenyalang which is a favorite of many regardless of the community.

🔹Maria, 43, who is of mixed Chinese and Bidayuh blood, said to maintain Sarawak's identity in the traditional food, the idea arose to produce a variation on moon cake which is usually based on red beans, lotus seed mixture and salted egg yolk.

🔹Apparently, the game made at the Moon Cake Festival last year bore fruit when many people liked the innovation of ‘Mooncake’ layer cake or moon layer cake made by their hands until it received encouraging response.

Sarawak kek lapis demonstrates Malaysian bakers' commitment in 💪

Ken, or , posted on Twitter the breathtaking pictures of his mother's Sarawak Kek Lapis, which at the time of writing had a massive 100,000 likes.

There is a Sarawak Layer Cake Manufacturers Association aimed at preserving the identity of this cake and retaining its tradition in Sarawak to help bring the value of these traditional cakes into context. British celebrity judge Paul Hollywood has also praised it as being severely' complicated' to bake on an episode of The Great British Bake Off back in 2019.

Ken also shared that his mother has been baking from Kuching, Sarawak, where they live, with his sister's assistance since 1984.

THE DO'S AND DONT'S IN MAKING KEK LAPIS SARAWAK

These are the tips that I can share throughout the process of making some Sarawak layer cakes. Hopefully it helps friends out there in making Sarawak layer cake 😄

DO'S:
✔ Each layer of layer cake you have to make sure to use the same proportions
✔ Just USE the fire above to bake every layer of Sarawak layer cake
✔ Make sure the temperature is not too high, only between 150 'to 160'

DONT'S:
❌Do not apply Butter on the mold wall as the cake will shrink and the edges of the cake away from the mold wall
❌Do not cut the layer cake that is still hot
