For those that are new to Jonah Bakes, welcome to the sweet world of our family-run bakery! We are thrilled to share with you our love and passion for baking, and even more so, our journey with Jonah, our extraordinary 9 year old baker.
This is a family-run business by a mother-son duo, Miyumi and Jonah, and sometimes Jamian too, Jonah's younger brother. Jonah was born with a rare genetic condition called Hajdu Cheney Syndrome, with less than 100 reported cases world-wide. This condition has affected his growth causing him to have a short stature. It is also accompanied by severe osteoporosis causing him multiple fractures, craniofacial and dental abnormalities, spinal abnormalities, skeletal deformities and basilar invagination. Jonah also has to wear a CPAP machine during the night for his severe sleep apnea. He can't run or play with other kids his age, nor climb up a flight of stairs or walk more than 20steps max. But even with all the challenges he faces, nothing can stop him from chasing his passion and dream. He is currently attending school at a homeschooling centre and is coping well in his studies.
From a very young age, Jonah has always dreamt of becoming a baker. At 6 years old, he expressed his hopes and dreams to have his very own bakery. I've started this business to encourage him to chase his passion and fulfill his dreams. We have been baking ever since.
Not only does this bakery showcase Jonah's talents, but it also allows me to work from home as a single mother to look after Jonah and Jamian. With your support towards our small and independent business, this little bakery has allowed us as a family to have financial stability while prioritizing our family and health.
