I try to promote local businesses whenever I can, and share the information with my guests. Venus showed me to Taxi Café years ago, and recently Jonathan and I have been regular customers because the food is fresh and delicious without fail.

The English menu is extremely limited, so I took the menu home, scanned it and ran it through Google translate. the original had the titles in Lao and Chinese, so I translated the Chinese only and left the Lao for the waitresses to read.

I found a company called Lao Teak and they were offering a lovely cutting board for small money. So I had to try. I have already given it three generous coats of pure coconut oil (thank you Venus!), and here it awaits a fourth. I can't wait to use it!

Right at the bottom of our street on a deck that is right over the Mekong with a most spectacular view is the world famous "Luang Prabang Omelette" shop. This is a very thin and crispy egg omelette made with rice milk and filled with morning glory, bean sprouts and fermented ham. The sauce is a light molasses sauce that you mix with crushed peanut, chili and lime juice. An most amazing and memorable dining experience.
