BAKE, in partnership with KICTANet is hosting a multi-stakeholder dialogue on advocacy strategies for better tech and media policies in Kenya.

Dr. Grace Githaiga welcomed all stakeholders during the opening remarks, encouraging open and honest engagement throughout the dialogue as participants discuss how we can strengthen advocacy for better technology and media policies.

BAKE Chairman Kennedy Kachwanya also addressed the gathering, reflecting on BAKE’s recent court victory and the importance of collective action in advancing digital rights. He posed a key question for stakeholders: How do we work together?

The question speaks to the heart of today’s dialogue as stakeholders explore collaborative approaches to evidence-based, participatory and rights-respecting policymaking, while laying the groundwork for the Kenya Digital Rights Election Coalition (K-DREC) ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Digital content creators play an increasingly important role in how information is produced, shared and consumed. As part of Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2026, UNESCO will host 'Digital Content Creators Play a Part' on 26th to27 October 2026 in Nairobi.

The event will bring together digital content creators and other stakeholders to discuss media and information literacy, responsible content creation and the role creators can play in strengthening the information ecosystem.

Sondeka Festival 2026 brought together Kenya’s creative community for a day of music, fashion, film, gaming, art and technology at The Junction Mall.

BAKE was pleased to be part of the return of the festival, partnering with Creatives Garage and using our space to engage attendees on Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV).

Our outreach focused on raising awareness about online and offline gender-based violence, promoting safer digital spaces and encouraging support for survivors. Participants also made pledges to stand with survivors and help spread awareness on TFGBV.

Today, we remember two members of the BAKE community whose contributions helped shape the organisation’s early journey and Kenya’s blogging ecosystem.

Idd Salim was one of BAKE’s founding members. He was a father, friend, mentor and talented developer who made a lasting impression on those around him.

Rajan Solanki was the founder of Pika Chakula. His passion for food was reflected in his award-winning blog, which celebrated food and storytelling. Rajan was among those who lost their lives in the Westgate attack on September 21, 2013.

In 2014, BAKE held a memorial to celebrate the lives of these two members and show support for their families.We continue to remember Idd and Rajan and honour the contributions they made to our community.

As digital transformation continues to shape societies, ensuring that people can access and participate in digital spaces safely and freely remains essential. At 2026, “Bridging the Digital Divide While Fighting for Freedom: The Case of Zambia’s Digital Future” will examine the opportunities and challenges shaping Zambia’s digital landscape.

The session will present findings from the 2026 State of Internet Freedom Report and bring together stakeholders to discuss access, affordability, digital freedoms, online safety, privacy and rights-respecting digital governance.
