The Chicken Sammich
I know, and no, we’re not going to argue about what a sammich is.
It was a black car, a GT to be precise. It was shiny, almost glistening in the gloomy Nairobi evening weather. The reflection of the lights at the shop bouncing off it and giving a dazzling dance, as if to welcome what the night might have to offer. It stood there, still, with the engine running, I could tell from the purr, like a gentle cat…. relaxing in an Indian’s shop on biashara street watching over Mutiso. I don’t know why there’s always a Mutiso working at an Indian’s shop. No one stepped of the car for a minute or so, and I couldn’t help but wonder to myself if an actual Mutiso was going to pounce out of this black cat that was purring, and not at an Indian’s shopMomentarily, the doors flew open. All three at once. The car had four doors, but they only opened three. First out was tall, not too tall but not short by female standards. She had a mature prettiness to her face, but her eyes danced as if to display a youthfulness in her. She wore a light blue pair of jeans and T-shirt and her hips were young, almost jiggly but held tight in the grip of the jeans. She had black sneakers with a white sole. She looked like the boss of them, ecause her smile was beautiful, but bossy. Second out was short, in a little black skirt and black jacket and black cap. She was light, with nice legs. Really nice legs. She had on black sneakers with a white sole. She smiled shyly, almost like the baby of the group. Maybe the newbee at work? Then came the third one. The one driving. She was tall-ish. Not like the first one, but not as short as the second. She had on black pants and a jacket. She had a happy smile, almost excited to be here. She walked straight past me, ok no, they said hi and we hugged. Yes, we really did hug. With all three of them. They asked for coffee, Edmax Coffee, of course, and then came the battle of the sammich. She asked for a BLT, I suggested the chicken sammich. Now, you have to have been there to see the different reactions. The tall one, the boss of them, took her first bite as her teeth dug in,and she fumbled, careful for the cheese not to drip. Her eyes popped, and her hands shook almost as if the pleasure was ungodly………I can’t even continue….
You know what, get yourself to Edmax coffee along Othaya road and have a cup of coffee and chicken cheese sammich. www/edmaxcoffee.co.ke.
