【河道屋と伝統文化】
河道屋本店の向かい側にある別館。
ふと見上げた鴨居の上には、大きさが異なる
ふくよかな布袋さんが15体。
これは京都の古い商家に伝わる「七体布袋（しちたいほてい）」という風習です。
1年ごとに一回り大きな布袋さんを買い足して
7年かけて完成させる。
一気に大きくするのではなく、一段ずつ、丁寧に。
並んでいる布袋さんの数は、その間欠かさず商売を
続けてきた証。
こちらでは7体ではなく、珍しい15体の布袋さんが並んでいます。
総本家河道屋の歴史の傍らには、いつもこうして「福」を育てる心があったのかもしれません。

This annex is located across from Kawamichiya's main store.
Looking up, I noticed 15 plump Hotei statues of different sizes atop the lintel.
This is a tradition known as "Seven Hoteis" (Shichitai Hotei), passed down through an old Kyoto merchant family.
A larger Hotei statue is purchased each year, and it takes seven years to complete.
Rather than building a larger statue all at once, they are carefully constructed one stage at a time.
The number of Hotei statues lined up is proof of the company's continued business.
Here, instead of seven, there are an unusual 15 Hotei statues lined up.
Perhaps Kawamichiya's history has always been marked by a spirit of nurturing good fortune.
